COVID-19 has been one of the most disruptive things this year. Companies and businesses are dealing with unprecedented times and they have had to adapt to the new normal. The adoption of the cloud in the wake of this virus has also been rapid. As governments across the world encourage people to work from home, remote work is now a huge part of daily life and the cloud seems to be making this happen.

The only downside to this is that most businesses have adopted the cloud as a last resort measure. While there are clearly benefits of cloud networks during this pandemic, the way businesses have adopted the technology has left them exposed to potential security issues.

Well, the good thing about the cloud is that it's adaptable. Just a few steps can go a long way in enhancing overall security, something that many companies cannot afford to lose right now. One thing you can do is to reassess the migration. In order for people to use the cloud, they need to migrate important data and files from physical servers to cloud servers.

There are also a host of other things that need to be done in order for businesses to fully transition their operations into the cloud. Since COVID-19 forced companies to do the migration without any notice, there's a chance a few crucial cloud security steps may have been missed in the process. In that case, just go back and assess everything to be sure the migration was above board.

Do you have a continuity plan? Yes, some businesses have been forced to the cloud by COVID but it doesn't mean you have to leave.

The pandemic may last longer than we expected and a whole lot more people will be forced to work from home. Besides, the cloud experience is changing how we view remote work. Even after COVID is over, there will be different companies encouraging remote work and other cloud-based business processes.

It's therefore important to have a continuity plan that stipulates how you can leverage the power of the cloud moving forward. You also need to familiarize yourself with the best standards of cloud security and efficiency. The technology world is very dynamic and IT keeps changing all the time.

This means that you need to be up to date with all security updates and work with cybersecurity experts to ensure that your cloud networks are secured.

If you have several employees under your business, you may need to train them on these security standards and provide additional information that allows them to use the cloud without putting company data at risk. Finally, take a look at any security features offered by the cloud provider.

There are vendors out there who offer security tools at a fee too. While not all tools will help, some may really make a huge difference and save your company a lot of pain in cyber-attacks.
