Amid COVID-19 pandemic, every store that will be reopening has to follow social distancing. However, despite all the warnings and reminders, not every customer follows the rules. Due to this, a bar in the United Kingdom decides to put up a 'live' and fully-charged electric fence around its stalls. Luckily, they up a warning with a phrase, "Warning: ELECTRIC FENCE."

How to push away people from getting near you amid COVID-19

Whenever you're in a bar, its a habit for most of us to get near the bartender to fix us with our drinks, however, in the middle of a pandemic, customers are now required to follow the rules on social distancing.

A bar in the United Kingdom, around Cornwall, has a different strategy to force their customers in following the minimum distance among each other.

Daily Mail UK reported on Sunday, July 12, about a popular pub in the city that installed a 'live' and fully-charged electric fence around the bartender's table to keep their customers 6-feet away from each other.

Owner of the 'The Star Inn' knows how hard it is to always remind their customers from keeping distance inside their pub.

"It's there for social-distancing," Star Inn landlord Johnny McFadden said, speaking on a Sunday afternoon where it was busy behind the bar. "Before the fence, people were not following social-distancing and were doing as they pleased, but now people take heed to the guidance around social distancing."

'It can be turned on'

McFadden clarifies that the pub is not having a torture table inside their establishment. But the electric fence is not fake at all. He said that the electric fence is turned off most of the time, but it could be turned on anytime he sees customers not following their rules. The owner insists, "It's for everybody's benefit."

The pub's viral images already circulated online and may have been the best marketing strategy for the pub. However, if you're going to search its website, no electric fence indicators were up there. Just a reminder that customers will be having "a friendly welcome assured."

Does social distancing work?

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had its own study regarding the imposing of social distancing in the country.

With a tagline 'Keep a safe distance to slow the spread,' the US CDC states that "Since people can spread the virus before they know they are sick, it is important to stay at least 6 feet away from others when possible, even if you-or they-do not have any symptoms. Social distancing is especially important for people who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19."
