'Krispy Kreme' anniversary sale is coming soon! The doughnut store will have its 83rd birthday, which means that promos and freebies will be up for grabs. However, amid pandemic, a celebration may not be the best option for most of the countries. One example is what's currently happening in Australia.

Long lanes found outside 'Krispy Kreme' stores in Australia

As reported via ABC Australia, the 'Krispy Kreme' fever in the country has arrived early. Apparently, it's not a good thing.

The store offers free dozen doughnuts to all customers who had a birthday between mid-March and mid-July, to celebrate the company's 83rd birthday. Since its free, it forced people to stay on queues-- despite the COVID-19 scare.

Images of long queues were spotted outside of Krispy Kreme stores nationwide. As news of the long lines was recorded, concerns of the health status within these people arise.

New South Wales' Acting Assistant Commissioner Tony Cooke said that Krispy Kreme's promotion amid pandemic was "nonsensical and defies logic."

"We have people in NSW who have lost jobs, people who have missed the opportunity to farewell their loved ones at funerals, and of course, people who have lost their lives due to COVID-19," highlighting the disrespect of the store with their promo.

Police personnel had already dispatched around the stores to force customers to follow the rules of social distancing.

Krispy Kreme, however, said that its "crucial [for] the celebration to stay safe." They also clarified that "All government guidelines must be followed, and customers will be required to comply with social-distancing rules at all times."

Not all are happy

Customers from their Facebook page also showed their dismay with the marketing PR of the store.

"How about free donuts for nurses at the hospital instead of creating a potential new outbreak! Kovid Kreme," said one Facebook user.

"This was such a great idea. Especially in the middle of COVID 19 outbreaks at Casula. And the "sold out" is that code for NSW health and the police shut things down or did you actually wait to sell out I don't know what is worse," said another Facebook user. "Your Marketing PR department must be feeling great."

When is 'Krispy Kreme's anniversary sale?

It has been a long tradition for popular American doughnut store Krispy Kreme to celebrate whenever July comes. Last year, the store gave away free dozen doughnuts for only $1.

On Friday, July 17, the store will be having its 83rd-anniversary sale. According to its Facebook page, as a celebration of their birthday, all customers that will be purchasing any of their products-- will be receiving an additional free dozen of their classic doughnuts.

All customers can buy it through dining in, drive-thru, ordering online, or buying doughnuts directly from the shops.
