Mystery has surrounded a silver monolith found in the middle of a remote desert in Utah, and as people try to find its exact location and uncover some truth behind its origins, another riddle has surfaced as the monolith has mysteriously disappeared after going viral.

The Utah Monolith is Gone

According to CNN, the monolith was first discovered on November 18 by members of the Utah Department of Public Safety while assisting the Division of Wildlife Resources count bighorn sheep in Utah's desert.

While in the air aboard a helicopter, the authorities found the mysterious silver monolith that looked straight out of the "2001: A Space Odyssey" movie, which the DPS Aero Bureau shared on their official Instagram page.

However, upon looking back at the department's social media account, the monolith's image has been removed.

Moreover, the Bureau of Land Management in Utah has also made an official statement saying that the silver monolith has disappeared.

Removed by 'Unknown Party'

Utah BLM announced on their official Facebook account on Saturday, November 28, that the structure had been removed by an "unknown party" and that it was taken sometime Friday night, November 27.

"We have received credible reports that the illegally installed structure, referred to as the 'monolith,' has been removed," the agency wrote in their post. "The BLM did not remove the structure, which is considered private property."

The authorities also said they wouldn't be investigating the current whereabouts of the monolith, nor who took it, as they deem it as "private property," and the local sheriff's office handles such cases.

Until now, people are uncertain of the monolith's origin, which prompted conspiracy theories of alien tech or that it came from space, but authorities and some people also believe an artist might have installed it.

As soon as the monolith images gained national and international attention, people all over the internet have tried to locate its exact location, something the DPS did not specify.

Finding Its Exact Location

According to a recent report by Tech Times, the department warned the people never to try and attempt to find the monolith as it is in a very remote location and getting stranded is possible, and people may require rescue.

Still, tons of people are still trying to find the monolith's exact location, with several coordinates found on Reddit, but none can confirm whether they are correct.

Nevertheless, it appears that three people have successfully found the monolith, and at least one explorer getting lost at first but saying that the hardship of trekking and almost getting stranded is worth it after seeing the silver structure.

David Surber, one of the volunteers who found the monolith posted a video on his Instagram account, along with a few facts he found out about the structure, such as the monolith was not magnetic nor was it solid.

"At the end of the day, extraterrestrial or made through artistic expression; the monolith provided an opportunity for thousands of people to rally behind something positive again," Surber told CNN. "It was a good escape from all the negativity we've experienced in 2020."
