It can be difficult to find the right gift for mothers at times. What could be the perfect gift that reflects your admiration for a selfless being? If you are Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon, The Washington Post, and Blue Origin and is closest to the richest man in the world, a huge rocket recovery ship may be a cool Mom-gift idea.

Last December 20, Jeff Bezos updated his official instagram page as he launched the name of his rocket-catching recovery both for the space company that he owns, Blue Origin. According to his post, Bezos and his siblings surprised their mom by naming the huge landing ship in honor of her, the 'Jacklyn'. According to the post, the 'Jacklyn' will receive the New Glenn, a two stage rocket after every flight.

He highlights in the post that the ship "couldn't be more appropriately named". He relates his mother Jacklyn Bezos to the ship 'Jacklyn' as someone that has given them the 'best place and best heart to come home to.'

According to GeekWire, the 600- foot ship was formerly known as the Blue Origin Landing Platform Ship and was purchased back in 2018. It's originally used as a floating landing platform that is used for the company's New Glenn rocket Booster Stage. However, since its initial purchase the ship has continued to undergo refit and refurbishing in order to prepare its role of receiving landing rockets.

'Jacklyn' to be Used for New Glenn's Venture for 2021

Now, the 'Jacklyn' plays a very important role since New Glenn's first stage is deemed to be reusable. The first stage of Blue Origin's rocket can be reused for up to 25 times. According to CNN Business, it can be comparable to SpaceX's drone recovery ships that work to receive the Falcon 9 Boosters.

For its first use, after being renamed 'Jacklyn', it will be positioned in the Atlantic Ocean to receive New Glenn's first stage. The hydrodynamically-stabilized ship makes it possible to survive the recovery even in rough tides and environments. The 'Jacklyn' will be autonomously or tele robotically controlled and will not be crewed by the time the New Glenn Booster should be received.

It is set in preparation for when the New Glenn launches from Kennedy Space Center that is set to happen by 2021. Blue Origin has spent about $2.5 Billion on the program and therefore hopes to pursue plans of flying New Glenn on the scheduled feat from the Kennedy Space Center. In addition, NASA has already awarded Blue Origin an official permission to allow New Glenn to compete for missions for the purposes of Earth observation, and exploration, as well as for scientific satellites.
