Damaged Boxes of Cereals for PS5 Giveaway

According to GamingBible, American food manufacturer General Mills has recently partnered with Sony for a PS5 giveaway, with the lucky winner bringing home a brand new PS5 standard edition (digital and disc) along with other exciting prizes, including PlayStation Store vouchers, over 800 PlayStation 4 units, and 250 sets of "Marvel's Iron Man VR" bundles.

However, it seems like the majority of people only really cared about the free PS5, and since the stocks are scarce, many have resorted to ravaging unsold boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and left them right at their respective grocery shelves.

An image of the aftermath of these desperate console hunters was uploaded on the subreddit r/trashy by a Reddit user.

According to the anonymous Redditor, they were at Walmart and saw a bunch of cereal boxes opened to find the code included in the boxes that enters them into the competition and get a chance at winning the elusive console.

Each person can enter the sweepstakes 15 times until the promotion ends.

Possibly More Cases?

Besides Cinnamon Toast Crunch, the sweepstakes also extend to other cereals like Cookie Crisp, Honey Nut Cheerios, Reese's Puff, and Cocoa Puff, so it's possible that the ravaging of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch boxes is not an isolated case and there are more who have resorted to such destruction.

Due to the damages, the boxes and the contents might have to be tossed out by Walmart.

But apparently, this is not something new, as someone in the comment section of the Reddit thread said that they previously worked in a supermarket before for six years, and during their stint, they have seen damaged boxes of cereals so desperate people can get the limited edition toys often included in these cereals.

People have also commented about the "no purchase law" with regards to sweepstakes.

Some sweepstakes-type promotions should not require any purchase transactions, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)--in fact, it's against the law to create giveaways and sweepstakes that require money to enter in the United States and other countries abroad.

Next Shipment of PS5 Consoles

With the demand for the next-generation console by Sony, people are constantly on the lookout for restock announcements from major retailers such as Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Best Buy.

Of course, people are also following Sony Direct closely so they can get a chance at grabbing one of the limited stocks the company is shipping out, and according to a recent report by Tech Times, it seems like Sony will be shipping out some stocks this week to these retailers.

Some of the stocks should have arrived by Thursday, January 7, although some might have to wait until January 12 to 14 to get stocks.

So, for those who are still waiting to acquire a PS5, it's best to check retailers every now and then.
