The start of the second wave of activities coming to "Genshin Impact" version 1.3 will be starting with the Lantern Rite Festival, where players can make the Xiao Lantern, which is one of the key items during the event, as well as the tower defense mode that players can try with a friend.

Here's how to craft a Xiao Lantern and where to find the materials.

How to Craft Xiao Lantern

First off, let's dive into making the Xiao Lantern, which is sort of an in-game currency, as per Siliconera.

According to the gaming news outlet, the Xiao Lantern can be used to gain access in the Theater Mechanicus tower defense, which we'll also be explaining down below.

To start crafting the Xiao Lantern, "Genshin Impact" players need to complete the special quest called "The Origins of Lanterns" that can be unlocked in the Liyue Harbor to get the recipe for the item after.

With the right materials gathered, players can then craft the special item in the crafting bench nearby next to the Teleport Waypoint in the southern part of the Liyue Harbor or near Timaeus in Mondtsadt.

There are only three things needed to make the Xiao Lantern: a Plaustrite Shard, a Lantern Fiber, and a Wick Material--and players require only one component of each material to craft the special item--and of course, some Mora to craft one.

Where to Find Xiao Lantern Crafting Materials

So, where can "Genshin Impact" players find the materials?

The Plaustrite Shard can be found from geo-aligned enemies as well as ore outcrops like White Iron Ore and Iron Ore that can be found across the map, usually in the path between Stormterror's Lair and Wolvendom in Mondstadt.

Meanwhile, the geo-affiliated enemies like the Geovishaps and their Hatchlings are in the southern part of the Liyue map and around Cuijue Slope and Tianqiu Valley.

The shard can also be dropped by Stonehide Lawachurls of Liyue.

As for the Lantern Fiber, the material comes from plants such as the Sweet Flower and Mint, which are plenty across Mondstadt and Liyue.

Lastly, miHoYo suggested that the final material, Wick Material, can be dropped by Fatui enemies across the Dragonspire area as well as in Liyue, as well as the Hilichurls that players can encounter across the area of Teyvat.

Theater Mechanicus Mode: Tower Defense

After creating a Xiao Lantern, "Genshin Impact" fans can now enter the Theater Mechanicus mode, which will have the tower defense event.

The Xiao Lantern will be used for the Theater Mechanicus mode.

According to GamesRadar, the Theater Mechanicus mode will open on Wednesday, February 10, until February 28 and can either be played solo or duo with a friend via the game's co-op mode.

Again, each attempt at the tower defense event will cost one Xiao Lantern.

Theater Mechanicus will follow standard tower defense rules for the most parts, which means a wave of enemies will arrive and players will have to use towers called Mechanici in their path to prevent them from reaching the exit by either stalling them or destroying them.

If there are too many enemies that have gone through the exit, the players lose.

Each tower can be upgraded to level 10 and will use a limited resource called Veneficus points, which will be shared during the co-op mode and there will also be a timed building phase before each wave.

Players will be unable to attack the enemies during the wave, but the variety of towers can be used to attack them as there are pyro and hydro cannones for AoE as well as electro and cryo towers for single targets, then there are Veneficus pyro tripmines, generators, mini teleporters, and towers that can buff other towers for maximum damage.

There are six game levels and eight difficulty settings, and in each one, the balance of monsters and towers will differ, but winning on max difficulty will triple the rewards that can be acquired.

Mastering the Theater Mechanicus will grant "Genshin Impact" players with Peace Talismans, which could be used to claim a free Liyue character during the Stand by Me event and can also be used as sort of an in-game currency that can be exchanged for various rewards.
