Samsung recently ended support for its Galaxy S8 and announced that it would no longer receive updates. But two other old phones of the South Korean tech giant, the Galaxy S20 and Note 20, will have additional camera features in the next update, SamMobile reported.

Samsung's May security patch will include S21's Director's View to the 2020 models of the brand.

T Mobile USA, as per SamMobile, first hinted at the possibility of the S21 exclusive camera features coming to older flagship phones. The mobile carrier's support page for S20 showed instructions on how to use the new features.

To add, the models that will enjoy the new feature are the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra. In addition, the Note 20 and Note 20 Plus will receive the update as well.

There is, unfortunately, no update yet if the foldable phone line and Galaxy S20 FE will also get the same feature.

What is the Director's View?

The Director's View was unveiled as the Samsung Galaxy S21 launched early this year. It was a significant addition to the flagship phone.

How does it work? Simple and straightforward.

According to Samsung, it lets users record two cameras at once. Hence, it creates the possibility of recording both the rear and front cam. To add, it is intended to help vloggers and content creators in producing their videos.

To use the dual recording function, follow these steps:

  • While recording a video, click the floating grey box that hovers near the top right of the screen to toggle the Dual Recording System
  • Click record and start the dual camera video
  • If using the Director's View, click the floating grey box to toggle Dual Recording System even while already recording the clip

How to Get the Update?

If you're using a May update supported phone, you may download it in the Settings app. Simple go to the Software Update once the patch is available. And you may now enjoy new features in a 2020 released device.

Samsung Giving Old Phones Features From New Phones

It is not the first time that Samsung gave an old phone features from the latest flagship. Thus, it may be one of the best perks of owning a device from the South Korean brand.

For instance, Tech Radar reported that, in the past, a Galaxy S20 feature made it to the S10. It is the Single Take Mode wherein all the rear cameras take photos at the same time. And users may opt to choose which is the best.

This Samsung practice may kill the fear of missing out from its users owning a year-late model of a phone. Furthermore, there's not much need to rush and get the latest.
