Sling app is here, and it is now being rolled out. Compared to competitors like Hulu and YouTube TV, Sling TV has never had the most up-to-date app, and the overall user experience leaves something to be desired.

It has been easy enough to overlook these shortcomings since Sling TV undercuts Hulu and YouTube TV on price, but on May 26, Sling just announced a completely redesigned app that focuses on more polish and personalized recommendations.

Sling App Roll Out

The new Sling TV app is rolling out first to select customers using Amazon's Fire TV devices, and other platforms will then be added as the year stretches on. It is expected to arrive on Roku sometime this summer, according to The Verge.

The Dish-owned company describes this as the most comprehensive update in Sling TV's history. And based on screenshots and the GIF posted on its official Twitter account, the latest update does look like a significant makeover.

Michael Schwimmer, the group president of Sling TV, said in a press release that after a year of talking to customers and working with their design and advanced engineering teams, they are going to roll out the new Sling TV app to deliver the best in live sports, news, and entertainment, at the same unbeatable low price point.

The redesign comes with numerous changes, including a left-side navigation column and a new homescreen that focuses on content recommendations.

The channel guide has been reimagined to make favoriting channels and filtering easier, though it will still feel familiar to customers who want that traditional cable-like grid, as per TV Technology.

Sling TV's cloud DVR now gets its own tab, which should make it easier to sort through your recordings. By default, the service comes with 50 hours of DVR space, but you can expand the hours to 200 for an extra $5 a month on top of your subscription.

Jon Lin, Sling TV's VP of Product stated that if a streaming app is done right, it should be invisible, allowing the users to get to the most relevant content fast and easy, and the new Sling TV experience does just that.

How Does Sling TV Work?

Sling TV is compatible with almost every streaming device. Both plans, the Sling Blue and Sling Orange, come with free 10-hour cloud DVR, IndieWire noted.

Both of the plans come with A&E, AMC, BBC America, Bloomberg Television, Cheddar, CNN, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, Food Network, History, and other lifestyle and movie channels.

With Sling Blue, you can have three device streams, and the channels are more news and entertainment focus like BET, Bravo, TLC, Fox News, Discovery, National Geographic and more. With Sling Orange, you will get Disney Channel, ESPN, Freeform, and Motortrend.

The Blue and Orange plans are $35 each, and it will cost you $25 for the first month. The extra channel bundles are $5 add-ons. You can also subscribe to both Blue and Orange for $50.

Sling TV also offers a bunch of international channel add-ons starting at $10 a month, including Spanish-language channels, and dozens of other international channels, and sports packages.
