Canon EOS R3 is one of Canon's biggest releases yet, and they just launched the second teaser for the brand new camera.

The new Canon model will have the ability to focus in the moonlight - and there's a possibility that it can do so even without using a tripod, based on the latest specs that the teaser seems to suggest.

Canon also revealed several new details on the awaited Canon EOS R3. It will have a high-end mirror-less design with a nice balance between two DSLR features found in 1D X Mark III and R5. What intrigued camera enthusiasts is the camera's autofocus and image stabilization system. Mostly, the question seems to be, "Who is making Canon EOS R3's camera sensor?"

Canon EOS R3: Main Features

Canon EOS R3 is still undergoing some developments, but according to Yahoo, here are the key features of the camera:

  • Electronic shutter that goes up to 30fps, with AE/AF tracking

Canon EOS R3: Better Low-light AF Version than Sony a9 II?

Canon EOS R3's specifications include vague yet captivating details on the camera's low-light performance based on Canon's recent teaser. The company announced that the camera will now focus in low light - reaching -7 EV, basically comparable to shooting in the moonlight.

Canon EOS R3 will have an expanded range, so it is still unclear whether its capability will require a specific focus mode, or a slowed-down performance similar to Nikon's Z series (low light AF mode).

Imaging Resource said that Canon EOS R3 will also feature eight stops of stabilization. With the combination of these two features, Canon's new camera seems to have a powerful low-light performance.

According to the two-part teasers, Canon EOS R3 will have an autofocus system with beautiful subject recognition for cars, bikes, and motorsports, almost precisely like the Olympus E-M1X.

Canon EOS R3's AF tracking might also work in video mode, as the teasers suggest.

Canon EOS R3's Sensor - Developed by Canon

The tech giant said in an interview that the full-frame sensor of their new model will be fully developed by Canon. This huge camera company is known for adding "designed and manufactured by Canon" to their products.

But for the first time, Canon will only develop their version of the backlit stacked sensor.

Canon has not confirmed nor rejected any accusations about having another company manufacture Canon EOS R3's sensor, as per DIY Photography. With this, camera enthusiasts started to worry about the camera's sensor and its quality.

The company's cameras feature some of the few interchangeable camera lens systems with a model-specific sensor, unlike other sensors developed by Sony or Tower Jazz. This feature gives Canon cameras an edge - they produce images with a slightly different look, primarily in the color scheme.

The main question is: will Canon's image quality change because of the new sensor?
