PS5 owners, Apple has a nifty gift for you if you want to do anything else on your console aside from playing games.

According to The Verge, there's a free 6-month subscription to Apple TV Plus up for grabs for all PS5 owners. This offer is part of Sony and Apple teaming up to help promote a slew of new shows on the service. After six months, you can choose to continue the subscription at $4.99 a month.

You can access the free six-month trial by downloading the Apple TV Plus app from the Media tab on the PlayStation 5 home screen.

The promo itself seems to have come just in time for the premiere of the second season of "Ted Lasso," a new hit comedy series starring Jason Sudeikis as a Division II college football coach. But of course, it's not the only anticipated show in town.

Since you already love playing games (you already own a PS5, anyway) and would like to know how your favorite games are made, then maybe you can watch "Mythic Quest." It's a series that focuses on a fictional game development studio and its goal of creating an online game. Or you could wait for the release of "The Problem with Jon Stewart," which is releasing in September--well within the 6-month free period.

This is the first long-running trial period for Apple TV Plus since ending its one-year free period last month, exclusive to Apple devices. If you want to know which regions are eligible for claiming the promo in this blog post on the PlayStation website.

PS5 Getting Free Apple TV Plus For Half a Year: What Gives?

Back in November, Apple debuted their TV Plus subscription on both the PlayStation and Xbox systems. This allowed users with Apple IDs to sign in to their accounts on their supported consoles, giving them access to Apple's library of movies and TV content. It was the first step to Apple branching its subscription out to people who don't own related hardware.

As a result, the company struck multiple deals with other companies to reach more potential subscribers, writes 9To5Mac. The PS5 deal wasn't the first to offer a lengthy trial period, too. Members of Target Circle are eligible for four months of free TV Plus subscription, and some smart TV brands like Roku have also offered similar deals.

Why Try Out Apple TV on a PS5?

Sony designed the PlayStation 5 for true next-generation entertainment, and that's not exclusive to gaming.

For instance, if you already own the console, chances are you're playing on a 4K HDR-enabled monitor. Tons of movies and TV series on the subscription offer the option to be played in 4K HDR according to Apple support, which is incredible-looking and something you have to see to believe. It's a good way to kick back and relax after a day filled with headshooting enemies on "Call of Duty: Warzone."
