The Lamborghini Countach is celebrating 50 years since the Italian car manufacturer debuted a prototype of the sports car with very big news. The Lamborghini Countach is making a comeback soon.

Lamborghini made the announcement, which has surprised and delighted fans of the iconic sports car, with a teaser video posted on its official website as well as on social media.

"Future is our legacy. And the new Lamborghini Countach is coming," the brief teaser on the Lamborghini website reads.

Lamborghini Countach Returns

The Lamborghini Countach is set for a return and it is undoubtedly big and very good news for fans of the iconic 1970s Lamborghini classic.

While the teaser does not give away much about the new Lamborghini Countach, a report by SlashGear notes that it "certainly doesn't skimp on those Countach hallmarks. Long, low, and distinctively wedge-shaped, it looks to feature short rear overhangs and the distinctive silhouette that have become Lamborghini shorthand in the intervening years."

No release date has been announced as of writing for the return of the Lamborghini Countach. There are speculations, however, that it will be revealed on August 15 during the Monterey Car Week.

Leaks of the New Lamborghini Countach

While Lamborghini itself has not confirmed any details about the return of the Lamborghini Countach sports car, leaks have made its way to the internet. According to reports, the Countach will most likely join the lineup of Lamborghini's hybrid cars

Leaks from Lamborghini's customer-only app, Unica, have also been shared on the internet. According to these leaks, as cited in the report by The Verge, the new Lamborghini Countach will be known as the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4.

A leaked photo also shows the vents of the sports car. Per a report by CNET, "the vented intake is most reminiscent of the 1971 concept car and not the production Countach that followed three years later, which replaced those vents with a larger, boxy intake."

According to CNET, the Italian car manufacturer has been taking orders for its returning sports car for months already.

Lamborghini Countach

The Lamborghini Countach is a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car whose prototype was first shown to the public in 1971 by the Italian car manufacturer. It was designed by Marcello Gandini.

The Countach officially debuted in 1974 and was produced by Lamborghini until 1990.

The SlashGear report describes it as "unapologetically angular, the Countach also featured scissor doors for the first time on a Lamborghini, lifting up and forward."

Lamborghini only made less than 2,000 Countachs during the 16 years it was in production.

A special edition of the Countach was made in 1988 to celebrate Lamborghini's 25th anniversary. The 25th anniversary edition of the Lamborghini Countach is said to be the fastest variant of the sports car.
