It was revealed recently that Tom Hardy had dropped out of David Ayer's Suicide Squad movie destined for a 2016 release. Sad news no doubt, but it appears Warner Bros. is circling a replacement in the person of Jake Gyllenhaal.

Gyllenhaal is considered one of the best actors of 2014, thanks to his movie Nightcrawler. Unfortunately, he was not nominated for an Oscar, but that doesn't mean others are not impressed with his work.

The Wrap reported sources familiar with the matter are claiming that director David Ayer is attempting to court Gyllenhaal for the role. At the moment, we are not certain how well talks are going and whether or not the actor is interested in being Rick Flagg.

We understand that David Ayer and Jake Gyllenhaal have both worked together on a film called End of Watch in the past, so we can see why the director would feel comfortable working with the actor again.

Why did Tom Hardy choose to bounce anyway?

Reports say the actor is too busy with other projects to continue with Suicide Squad. His new movie The Revenant is still shooting and has gone beyond schedule. It is now expected to wrap in March this year. Furthermore, Hardy is needed to help promote his upcoming Warner Bros. movie Mad Max: Fury Road, which is set for a May 15 release.

Not every DC fan is happy about Tom Hardy dropping out, but from what we have seen, it appears the majority on the Internet would be fine with Jake Gyllenhaal replacing Hardy.

Suicide Squad is the third movie of Warner Bros' ambitious DC Cinematic Multiverse which, of course, rivals the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie won't hit the big screen until 2016, but anything can change since we are more than a year away and the movie is currently in pre-production.

The movie is all about a team of villains used by the government to perform dangerous missions around the world. So far, the cast includes Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, Jared Leto as The Joker, and Viola Davis as Amanda "The Wall" Waller.

We understand that Jessie Eisenberg could reprise his role as Lex Luthor.
