Ever since TikTok launched, different major platforms have been looking for ways to keep up with the trendy app through offering alternatives. Shorts is YouTube's way to compete with TikTok but something that didn't really incentivize creators, however, is the lack of monetization.

YouTube Shorts Monetization Additions

YouTube is now adding additional ways for creators on Shorts to monetize the TikTok video-like format. Although YouTube is still falling behind TikTok, the company hasn't stopped innovating within the platform.

YouTube is reportedly adding new ways for users to monetize Shorts according to The Verge. While the TikTok-style format is getting incredibly popular, creators on YouTube have found it to be a good way not only to release new content but also to release short versions or teasers of their full videos.

Short Clips or Teasers Becoming Popular with YouTube Shorts

The short clips of longer YouTube videos on Shorts have started to become more and more popular within the platform. According to the story by AndroidHeadlines, due to this, the company has decided to provide new YouTube Shorts monetization options.

Although not a lot of information was provided, there were a few ambitions outlined starting with SuperChats being brought to YouTube Shorts. SuperChats are a way for users to monetize their comment section since they become highlighted comments that viewers can pay for.

YouTube Adds 'Shop Directly from the Video' Feature

On top of this, YouTube is also bringing the ability for viewers to be able to "shop directly from the video" giving a new way for creators to be able to gain commissions by posting affiliate links. This, however, could be challenging for creators to place an ad due to the time constraint of Shorts.

Aside from monetization, there are also other features that YouTube is expected to add to Shorts including video effects that can easily be applied. In addition, the effects come with "additional editing capabilities that the company hasn't revealed yet."

Other YouTube Shorts Features Like TikTok

One revelation made by YouTube regarding its upcoming features is giving users the ability "to reply to a comment with a Short." For those that think this feature sounds familiar, this is because TikTok has long been doing this.

As per Android Headlines, at this point and time, TikTok competition has been "borrowing features and this should not "come as any surprise. Due to the way TikTok has been gaining a vast audience with its new repackaging of shorter content, more and more platforms are also trying to do the same.

The ability to monetize better on YouTube shorts could be a way for the platform to gain more creators and users due to the amount that YouTube pays compared to TikTok. Although they are different platforms, with the better monetization of Shorts, creators might have an advantage with Shorts compared to TikTok in terms of monetizing their content.
