NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 4: Tesla CEO Elon Musk arrives at federal court, April 4, 2019 in New York City. A federal judge will hear oral arguments this afternoon in a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that seeks to hold Musk in contempt for violating a settlement deal.

Elon Musk Donates $5.7 Billion Worth Tesla Shares

As per a news story by Forbes, a Securities and Exchange Commission or SEC Form 5 filing disclosed the donation of the billionaire Tesla CEO and founder to a charity in November last year.

To be precise, the SEC filing disclosed that Musk donated a total of 5,044,000 of Tesla or TSLA shares to a charity last Nov. 19, 2021, which during that time was still billions of dollars worth.

The SEC document dubbed the Tesla shares donation as a "bona fide gift" to an undisclosed charity.

According to a news story by Teslarati, the shares transaction of the Tesla CEO was filed under "Gift of securities by or to the insider."

The SEC filing puts it this way: "Represent a bona fide gift of the Issuer's common stock by the Reporting Person to charity."

Elon Musk's $6.6 Billion and World Hunger

Although the SEC filing failed to identify the receiving end of Musk's shares donation, it is worth noting that the Tesla exec previously vowed to sell his TSLA shares.

It comes after the United Nations World Food Program director, David Beasly, stated in an interview with CNN that the net worth of the billionaire Tesla CEO could reportedly end world hunger.

The Tesla boss, in an Elon Musk fashion, responded to claims of the UN director, saying that he would donate his TSLA shares if UN WFP could lay out how $6 billion could "end world hunger."

The UN WFP Chief tweeted in response that they are ready to talk with Musk regarding their "clear plan" to end the raging problem of famine in 2022.

In the same Twitter post, Beasley provided the billionaire with a comprehensive report regarding the plan of the UN to extend a helping hand to more than 42 million folks experiencing hunger across the globe.

It includes the expenses for food and delivery to those affected by famine, which costs to the tune of $3.5 billion. The $6.6 million plan also covers about $2 billion cash and food vouchers, as well as food programs for various countries worth $700 million.

However, it is worth noting that Musk has yet to confirm if the 5 million shares that he donated were meant for the $6.6 billion needed to "end world hunger."
