Many Facebook users are reportedly receiving emails or alerts where the social media company asks them to activate "Facebook Protect." The message suggests that if the people do not enable it, chances are their accounts could be locked on the platform.

For suspicious individuals who have been well-versed in various phishing attacks on social media, this alert could sound bogus. However, the Meta official confirmed that this implementation is real. They only relay the message via email because some people do not use the app that often.

Here's what you need to know about this security feature and how to turn it on. You'll also learn how to enable the 2FA in the Facebook app.

Facebook is requesting users to upgrade their security to Facebook Protect. Here's how you can do that plus a bonus step on activating 2FA on the platform.

According to a report by Android Police, Facebook Protect is a security feature that can be turned on, especially for high-risk social media accounts. In this regard, the company is bolstering its campaign to make the users' accounts more secure on the platform.

As such, they could switch on the 2FA and other security settings to improve privacy and safety when using the app.

Meta highlighted that those accounts which can establish a bigger reach to many audiences might be required to adopt stronger security.

According to the message, "Facebook Protect" must be activated by March 17. If it's not yet turned on by that time, the user might be at risk of locking his/her account.

This stringent implementation was officially confirmed by Nathaniel Gleicher, the head of security of Meta last Wednesday, March 2.

  3. Tap Settings & Privacy on the drop-down menu.
