Google will be retiring a Google Assistant feature known as Snapshot, which has been there since 2018. This, however, is not the end of the use-case but rather a way for Google to bring users "contextual updates."

Users can still get information such as birthday reminders and stock updates despite the retirement of Snapshot. Find out below how it can be done.

Google Retiring an Assistant Feature Called Snapshot

The latest feature to go would be a feature of the company's Google Assistant, which is known as Snapshot. According to the story by Android Central, Google is currently directing its users to ask their own Assistant for updates and information.

Users are being informed of the feature's impending removal via a notice in their devices.

When the Google Feature was Inititally Introduced

As seen in a Google post, the feature was originally introduced back in 2018 as a section of Google Assistant. The feature was able to hold a lot of different cards with both visual and contextual information coming for users in order to access reminders, travel, weather, and much more.

The feature was reportedly "something of a replacement for Google Now." This is despite the fact that the feature was buried behind the efforts of Google to improve its Assistant and Discover feed like Google Now.

In addition, per 9to5Google, users on Reddit actually complained that Google's Snapshot was actually "too hidden away to be of any actual use."

Google Announces 'Snapshot is Going Away Soon'

For those who happen to access Snapshot on any of their devices, a warning can be seen telling users that "Snapshot is going away soon." In addition, once the link is clicked, users will then be sent to a Google support page that says the same thing.

On the support page, detailed examples are given regarding how users can still have access to the same particular type of information when the feature retires.

The company is recommending its users to simply ask Google Assist when they need to know something, such as travel information, reminders, birthdays, stock updates, and more.

Google 'At a Glance' Widget

This would then seem much less convenient compared to having it all laid out visually in just one place. Per Android Central, if one considers the minimal attention that Snapshot gets, the removal of this feature might not really come as much of a surprise.

As of press time, it now seems like the company is focusing on bringing a lot of its contextual information to the Google's At a Glance widget that can be found on the Pixel smartphone.

The company is also pushing out some of smaller updates when it comes to Google Discovery every once in a while.
