Can-Am has just announced that it will release two new all-electric motorcycles to mark its 50th anniversary. The brand owned by BRP began in 1973 and since then continued to build high-performance dirt bikes until the 1980s.

Can-Am Announces New Electric Motorcycles

Can-Am and their riders won championships left and right until the BRP ended its motorcycle production. Now, the brand is coming back with a bang.

In the early 2000s, fans of the motorcycle brand saw the revival of Can-Am's ATVs and it other specialty vehicles like the three-wheeled Can-Am Spyder, but the upcoming electric motorcycles are more fitting for the brand and its two-wheeled origins.

On. Mar. 25, BRP released a 53-second video clip of the new motorcycles on YouTube, and it gave fans a quick glimpse of where Can-Am began and where the brand is now headed with its electrical products.

José Boisjoli, the president and CEO of BRP, explained to Electrek that with the motorcycle industry shifting to electric, the company saw an opportunity to reclaim its motorcycle heritage and re-enter the market.

Boisjoli said that the new product category is very important to the company, and they confirmed that the Can-Am motorcycles are the first EV models in BRP's electric lineup.

Can-Am is an iconic brand that has been a part of the memories of many dirt bike enthusiasts. Now the company is working on releasing a new lineup that will impress a new generation of motorcyclists and electric vehicle users.

Can-Am has not released any detailed information about the upcoming electric motorcycles. The company only said that riders can expect these new electric Can-Am motorcycles to be ideal for everyday commuting and that it stays true to the track and trail heritage of the brand.

Can-Am Teaser Video

The quick cuts of renderings in the teaser video show the naked street bike, which is akin to those produced by Zero Motorcycles. Unlike Zero Motorcycles, fans can see a single-sided rear swingarm setup, a massive tablet-size display, and a single-seater saddle.

The street bike could end up being a smaller format electric motorcycle, which would add to the growing trend in North America, according to Cycle World.

Although fans won't be able to see any close-up shots of the upcoming off-road electric motorcycle, playing the video with the lighting on can help reveal a few more clues regarding the dirt bike.

Fans will also better look at the next two models in the lineup if the lightning is on because they are shrouded in darkness in the video.

The announcement from Can-Am does not come as a surprise because BRP scooped up the remaining assets and IP from Alta after the electric dirt bike company went under in late 2018.

BRP has also committed to the electrification of the brand's various vehicles, from motorcycles to jet skis and snowmobiles, even showing off its prototypes.

For fans who are excited about the release of the new Can-Am electric motorcycles, you will have to wait a bit longer because the company confirmed the bikes would be released in mid-2024.

In 2021, Kawasaki revealed it will release electric motorcycles in 2035.

Earlier this year, Super73 released light electric motorcycles.
