A police officer shared his experience with Apple Watch's fall detection feature on Reddit.

The officer, who goes by the name Tropicott, said that he answered an emergency call from the feature, and it was to an elderly woman's home.

Police Officer Praises Apple Watch Fall Detection

The police officer stated he knew about the Apple Watch fall detection, but this was his first experience seeing the feature in action.

Tropicott shared on Reddit that he was sitting in his police vehicle writing up a previous file when his dispatcher went over the air. He got dispatched to a call that they received from an Apple Watch due to its fall detection feature.

History on the residence does not come back with anything, and all of the callbacks were negative.

As soon as the police officer got to their residence, they knocked and did not receive an answer. Through the glass panes, he noticed that the pictures were of an elderly woman, so they got an idea of who lived in the house.

Luckily, the door was unlocked, so he ran upstairs and found the elderly woman lying on her back with half of her face covered in blood.

After the police officer called the emergency services for medical attention, the elderly woman told the officer that she had fainted and did not know that her Apple Watch had called the police for her.

The elderly woman is now being treated and is expected to make a full recovery, according to MacRumors.

Other Reddit users have commented with their own personal experiences with the fall detection feature of the Apple Watch.

One Reddit user named Dont_Hate_The_Player states that he once took a bad spill on his skateboard, and his Apple Watch detected the fall and offered to dial emergency services. He declined because he did not suffer an injury, only a few cuts, and bruises.

The Reddit user added that fall detection is an underrated Apple Watch feature and that "you don't appreciate it until you need it."

Apple Watch's Fall Detection Feature

Fall detection was launched together with the Apple Watch Series 4. If an Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch Series 4 or later detects a hard fall while you are wearing it, the watch will tap you on the wrist, sound an alarm, and display an alert.

You can call emergency services if you need to, or you can dismiss it by pressing the Digital Crown to let the watch know that you are okay.

If the watch detects that you have not been moving for a minute, it will make the call automatically. When the call ends, your Apple Watch will alert your emergency contacts with your location and will let them know that you've been in an accident.

Apple Watch Helped Discover Lung Cancer

On Mar. 17, 9to5Mac reported that a 71-year-old woman was able to discover that she has lung cancer.

After the woman fell and the Apple Watch's fall detection called the paramedics, she was diagnosed with lung cancer by the doctors at the hospital.

In 2021, Apple Watch's fall detection feature called an ambulance for a man after he suffered a motorcycle accident.
