The Use of Find My Feature

This is not the first time that Apple's Find My feature has made headlines. In August, a 51-year-old man was arrested after a sheriff's deputy used Apple's feature to locate him.

According to KUSA, the man, who is from Denver, Colorado, was wanted on felony charges. He was arrested after being located through the Apple Find My app.

The Weld County Sheriff's office said that the deputies responded at around 1:15 a.m. for a report of a suspicious man at a storage lot.

The deputies who responded to the scene discovered a 2000 Chevy pickup truck being driven by the suspect, identified as Steven Sandoval, and performed a traffic stop.

Sandoval told the authorities that he was his brother, Anthony Sandoval, but the sheriff's office said that they confirmed his identity by looking at a previous mugshot and a list of tattoos.

While deputies were trying to get Sandoval out of the truck and take him into police custody, he drove through a security fence and left the scene.

Before he drove off, the sheriff's office said that a deputy placed his iPhone on the rail of the truck's bed, and after realizing it was gone, the officer had another deputy locate it with the Find My app.

The deputies were able to locate the iPhone through the Find My app, and they kept tracking it until it stopped around 2:47 a.m near Boulder, Colorado.

The sheriff's office said that the deputies contacted Boulder County Dispatch in order to ask for deputies with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office to respond to the address, where they arrested Sandoval and retried the iPhone.

Sandoval is currently facing several charges.

According to the sheriff's office, he is facing criminal mischief, criminal impersonation, attempt to influence a public servant, eluding, driving on a revoked license, resisting arrests, driving without insurance, possession of a Schedule Two controlled substances, flight to avoid prosecution, attempt to introduce contraband into jail during booking and failure to appear in court.
