"Next Big Thing"

The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth will be EA's next big thing for its mobile platforms, the publisher announced on Monday. It will be a "collectible role-playing game" that is expected to roll out in a limited and regional beta test this coming summer.

Developed by EA Capital Games, the production of the new mobile game will be based in Sacramento, California - which happens to be the same studio that created the very successful mobile collectible RPG, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.

EA detailed on Monday that it had renewed a partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises; they will both work on The Lord of the Rings mobile game together with another company.

Malachi Boyle, Vice President of Mobile RPG for Electronic Arts said that they are excited to partner with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises to lead the next generation of mobile RPGs.

The VP also revealed that the team is composed of fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit to bring the magical world of J.R.R. Tolkien into an immersive experience for players.

"The combination of high-fidelity graphics, cinematic animations, and stylized art immerses players in the fantasy of Middle-earth where they'll go head-to-head with their favorite characters," she said in a statement with Business Wire.

Inspired deeply by their appreciation towards Tolkien's world, Middle-earth Enterprises said that it will be dedicated to work with businesses creating quality products that adhere to green business and sustainability practices such as equality, fair trade, and other ethical acts.

"Conquer the Great Evils"

Heroes of Middle-earth will highlight an immersive story-telling, deep collection systems, turn-based combat, and a large roster of characters that came from the world of The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit.

Players will have the chance to go on an epic journey, encounter iconic stories from Tolkien's literary works, and the classic "conquer the great evils" lurking in Middle-earth.

It is worth noting that EA has published several Middle-earth games before such as The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers published in 2002, and 2009's The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, which was available for Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, Windows PC, and Xbox 360.

They also published 2010's tower-defense title The Lord of the Rings: Middle Earth Defense.

In terms of mobile games, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has also created five of the last six Middle-earth games found in Android and iOs.

The official date for the release of the new game is yet to be announced.
