After losing a huge chunk of its subscribers, Netflix is attempting to bring back its subscribers by attempting to make new shows. The streaming giant is attempting to live stream unscripted shows and comedy series.

Netflix is Planning to Bring Back Live Streaming and Commercials

According to the story by Gizmodo, in doing this, Netflix would make these shows very similar to what cable looked back then. The shows paired with the upcoming ads that the platform plans to bring will make it much more similar to what classic cable TV was back then.

The article notes that moving forward, streaming is getting closer to what it once was on network television. Commercials are coming back, password sharing is being investigated, and there is also a centralized hub used to combine all different types of subscriptions in a singular platform.

Netflix to Live Stream Unscripted Shows

A report by Deadline notes that on top of the commercials, Netflix ix taking the "back to classics" a step further with its attempt to bring back live shows. Gizmodo got a confirmation from a Netflix spokesperson that the company is still exploring the capabilities.

As per the article, live streaming could mostly be used for certain shows that need a participating audience or unscripted shows like competition series or reality TV. These types of shows would be similar to American Idol in style.

Comedy Festivals Could be Live Streamed Instead of Recorded

The live streaming feature can also be used for certain in-real-life events that Netflix has. One example of this is the Netflix is a Joke festival wherein Dave Chappelle was attacked "while performing there."

Certain comedy festivals have been taped and recorded with plans to bring them to Netflix. The platform's live streaming feature, however, will help show these live events in real-time.

Disney Plus Already Added a Live Streaming Feature

This particular decision to bring live streaming back to an online streaming platform isn't actually new. Other competitors like Disney Plus decided to bring this particular feature to their platform earlier this year, according to Tech Crunch.

As of press time, there isn't much information regarding Netflix's version of the live streaming feature yet. The streaming platform has also not yet released a date for the launch of its live streaming feature.

Potential Reasons Behind Netflix's Demise

As Gizmodo puts it, Netflix has definitely "hit some hard times recently," which include not just the massive subscriber loss but also the layoffs and the stock drop that followed. The publication notes that the reason for this huge drop is due to "poor financial management" as well as a "flawed business model."

The article says that it is too early to tell if Netflix can really innovate themselves out of trouble with new features like live streaming. The article is also not sure if live streaming is enough to bring Netflix back into the positive.
