Google's smartphone market in North America has increased by 380% with its strong sales on Pixel 6 models attributing to its success. The company has sold 1.2 million units of the Pixel 6 shipped within Q1 of 2022.

Google Increased Its First Quarter Market Growth in 2022

A report by Canalys shares how Google was able to outperform other smartphones within North America. In Q1 of this year, with a huge chunk of success coming from the Pixel 6 series, the company was able to almost quadruple its market share.

According to the story by Android Central, the report announced that during the first quarter, Google increased its units shipped from 200,000 during the same time last year to 1.2 million this quarter.

Google North American Market Share Increased by 380%

Google was able to establish itself in the top 5 when it came to the North America market as it increased its share by 380%. Runar Bjørhovde, a research analyst from Canalyst said that the company is on the offensive in the market.

Bjørhovde said that the Pixel brand was able to build a "wide carrier presence" especially with its NBA partnership as well as when it comes to their traditional advertising campaigns. The analyst noted that the company will expand in the future with its new devices.

Budget Pixel 6a Model Released

Google will be expanding its portfolio with a more affordable Pixel 6 version, the Pixel 6a, and other devices as well. The company will be also be adding a Pixel 7 flagship, Pixel Watch, and even the Pixel Buds.

The company is still behind in the market compared to some of the other major players. As per Canalys, despite its massive growth, the company was only able to go from 1% of the North American market during Q1 of 2021 to its 3% this year.

North American Smartphone Shipments Increased by 4% in Q1 of This Year

TCL was able to gain a larger market share compared to Google. According to Canalys, Lenovo gained a 10% market share while TCL gained a 4% market share.

Canalys announced that its North American smartphone shipments increased by 4% in the first quarter of this year.

While Google increased in market share, Samsung's share fell from 28% down to 27% when compared to the same period of last year. The company's share dropped despite it being able to have 10.5 million in shipments and an annual growth of 1%.

Apple Still Holds Majority Share in North America

Apple still held the majority share in North America with 51%. The Cupertino giant was able to ship out 19.9 million units.

Despite their flaws, Android Central notes that both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are considered thee best Android phones "despite their flaws." Due to this, the publication notes that it is not a surprise that Google's Pixel units have shown great growth.
