The Jupiter-Mars conjunction will soon happen. If you are among individuals who love outer space, you wouldn't want to miss this cosmic event.

Venus (L) and Jupiter (R) rise together in a rare conjunction in the pre-dawn sky of August 18, 2014 in New York. The two planets were separated by about 0.25 degrees as viewed from Earth. Also seen are the moons of Jupiter (from top, R-L): Europa, Io, Callisto (close to planet) and Ganymede. The planets will appear farther apart each day.

Previously, another planetary conjunction happened. But, this one involved the Earth's natural satellite, moon, and Saturn.

The next one is quite different since it will be two planets. Jupiter-Mars 2022 space conjunction is expected to happen from May 27 until May 30.

Space experts said that the angular distance (the distance of faraway objects perceived by the naked eyes) between Jupiter and Mars is around 0.6 degrees.

This means that both of them will look like they are overlapping each other.

According to SciTech Daily's latest report, the Jupiter-Mars space conjunction is expected to reach its peak at 3:57 a.m. CDT on May 29.

The Astronomers Monument frames planets Jupiter (L) and Saturn during the great conjunction as seen from the Griffith Observatory on the same day as the winter solstice, December 21, 2020 in Los Angeles, California. - The great conjunction refers to the astronomical alignment of Jupiter and Saturn, the closest for nearly 400 years.

When it comes to appearance, the two planets will be close together once they peak in the Earth's night sky. Although the angular distance is 0.6 degrees, some places will see their visible distance like an index/pointer finger.

On the other hand, Alphonse Sterling, a NASA astronomer, said that Jupiter (-2.2 magnitude) would be brighter than Mars (0.7 magnitudes).

Since this is the case, the larger planet will be more visible compared to the neighboring heavenly body.

"Planetary conjunctions traditionally have been more the stuff of astrology than serious astronomy, but they never fail to impress during observations," said NASA Marshall Space Flight Center astronomer, Mitzi Adams.

How To See, Capture Jupiter-Mars Conjunction?

For those who will not be able to see the Jupiter-Mars space conjunction that clearly, it is suggested to use a telescope or binocular.

On the other hand, if you have next-gen smartphones, such as iPhone 12, Samsung Galaxy S21, and other newer models, you can take advantage of their pro camera modes to take photos of the two overlapping planets.

Of course, DSLRs and other camera gadgets are still better options compared to smartphones, as reported by Astrobackyard

Also, don't forget to bring a tripod or anything stable that can hold your devices while you take photos of the Jupiter-Mars conjunction.
