AMD announced that it powers the "Frontier," and it is the world's first supercomputer that achieved "exascale" when it tested the systems. The company shared the specifications of the supercomputer, and it topped lists of the top-performing supercomputers in the world, with the optimized 3rd Gen AMD EPYC processors and AMD Instinct MI250x accelerators to power it.

The Frontier sits at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It is a machine that is a collaboration among different US companies, including Hewlett Packard Enterprises, that built it from the ground up.

Supercomputers take on a space of an entire building floor, and their power use is massive. It tests out different processes and runs simulations for many of the country's needs.

Frontier Supercomputer: AMD, US Achieves Exascale

The supercomputer used the High-Performance Linpack-Accelerator Introspection or HPL-AI test to measure its performance, and it rated a 1.1 quintillion or exaflop process per second. It is already in exascale, and the supercomputer is the first in the world to achieve this performance despite other high-tech systems before.

The Frontier supercomputer topped the Top500 and Green500 lists.

Advanced Micro Devices is one of the leading manufacturers globally, and the company has a lot of offers for everyone to use. AMD achieved a massive climb in the list, and the company rose to as much as 27 percent of market shares for desktop PCs.
