Microsoft Windows 11 File Explorer brings its tabs feature on its latest test build, allowing users to access multiple folders.

It is worth noting that the counterpart of File Explorer on Apple's macOS, the Finder, has been featuring the functionality of tabs. Not to mention that it is a staple on web browsers these days.

Microsoft's Windows 11 is finally bringing the much-awaited tabs function to its File Explorer app.

The tabs features might seem like a minor tweak, but this single functionality could do wonders.

After all, even light users of web browsers like Chrome and Edge are opening several tabs at once. So, Microsoft has now decided to bring the simple multitasking feature to its File Explorer.

Windows 11 File Explorer with Tabs?

According to a report by Windows Latest, the renowned tech firm Microsoft confirmed in April that Windows File Explorer is gaining a tabs function anytime soon.

Apart from the arrival of tabs on File Explorer, the announcement also unveiled a few new features on Windows 11, such as the Start Menu folders.

Microsoft seems to be working to refine its good ol' File Explorer app, attempting to improve the overall experience of its users. The said app should run its best version as Windows users generally have to use it to navigate their pile of files.

Windows Latest reports that users needs to be a bit patient with the much-awaited comeback of the File Explorer tabs.

While Microsoft has already confirmed its arrival, it is only seeing the light of day after the production build of Windows 11 version 22H2.

That said, the tabs feature might take a while before it arrives on the stable release of Windows 11. Instead, it will start appearing on the test builds of the OS.

So, while the Finder of Macs already sports a tabs capability, Windows gets somewhat left behind.

But it is bound to change. Windows 11 preview build brought back the tabs function to its File Explorer for the second time.

To be more precise, the test build 25136 of Windows 11 carries a refined version of File Explorer, thanks to the reinstatement of the tabs function.

Essentially, it allows users to open multiple folders in varying tabs without needing to have a bunch of windows cluttered.
