While the Apple Watch remains one of the best-known smartwatches in the space, it seems like Google is trying to catch up by launching a dedicated app for the Pixel Watch, which could be quite similar to the Watch app on iOS.

Google Plans to Add More to Its Pixel Watch

Google has been focusing on more than just its search engine. Lately, the company has also been investing heavily into hardware through smartphones, smartwatches, and other Google products.

Although most of its products are considered more affordable compared to those of Apple, like the Pixel watch, compared to an Apple Watch, they do lack certain features, which is something Google is aiming to change.

Pixel Watch App to Hold Similar Features to Watch App on iOS

According to the story by Tech Radar, Google's very own Pixel Watch could be getting a dedicated champion app when the device officially launches. This is something that Apple usually does with its Apple Watch through the Watch app on iOS.

Just like with the Watch app, users will be able to manage certain settings for the smartwatch directly from their smartphone, according to 9to5Google. To add, the company won't stop there and is already working on new features for the smartwatch.

New Feature to Allow Users to Unlock Devices

The new features being worked on by Google include allowing users to unlock the devices with the paired wearable. This is the same feature already in use for Apple devices allowing users to unlock iPhones, iPads, and even MacBooks.

As per Google, the new feature will be called Smart Unlock and will be made available for wearables that are compatible with Wear OS 3. 9to5Google notes that it was able to spot certain internal code indicating that the Pixel Watch will be taking advantage of the brand new feature.

Pixel Watch Standalone App Could be Paired with Android Smartphones

The Pixel Watch, however, could get its very own standalone app just like other smartwatches that are directly paired to Android smartphones through the help of the Wear OS app. There remains still very little detail regarding the premium smartwatch that Google will be launching.

The new development is expected to provide an interesting insight into what features will the company make available on the Pixel Watch. Back then, when Google launched a previous product called the Google Pixel Buds, the TWS earbuds still had to be paired through the use of a standalone app.

Dedicated App to Include Android Smart Unlock Feature

Instead of having to go to the smartphone's settings app, the new dedicated app is expected to make things easier for users. Users will be given the ability to access different accessory settings and control multiple features through its dedicated smartphone app.

As per Chrome Unboxed, the Pixel Watch is expected to come with a dedicated app that will feature the Android Smart Unlock feature.
