The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in their latest news release that Tesla's autonomous driving systems are "less likely to crash" or result in accidents based on their latest data. There are many doubts about Tesla's driving systems, but the company always proves itself otherwise to regulatory agencies and the public.

Elon Musk attests to this statement online.

NHTSA Releases Data on Autonomous Systems, Tesla Leads

Tesla CEO Elon Musk speaks during an event to launch the new Tesla Model X Crossover SUV on September 29, 2015 in Fremont, California.

An initial data by the NHTSA claimed that Tesla is "less likely to crash" while using its autonomous driving features, including the Autopilot and FSD driving assist software available in its vehicles. The data is incomplete and will continue to update in a monthly setting where the regulatory agency will give the public an insight regarding the ADS present in the country.

The Automated Driving Systems (ADS) is software from each automaker that brings a system to vehicles and use it to promote either a hands-free or assisted experience. The NHTSA also released crash summary reports regarding the ADS, bringing information in different levels that the agency received from its study.

Elon Musk Attests to Safe Driving Systems

A tweet from a reporter from Tesmanian said that the NHTSA document reported on the safe driving experiences using a Tesla's ADS, focusing on more minor crashes for its experience. Here, Musk replies to the Twitter statement and article that the information is "correct," and the CEO attests to this experience as it is something that he also uses.

Tesla and its Autonomous Driving

A report by the same regulatory agency claimed that there were many crashes involving a Tesla vehicle on the roads, which contradicts their present statement regarding its autonomous driving features. In this report, NHTSA said that the Tesla Autopilot has the most crashes seen in the industry, according to its ADS data.

However, Musk, Tesla, and its supporters that use the Full-Self Driving feature say otherwise, claiming that it is a safe autonomous system that can take a person from point A to B while following traffic rules. It even expands the availability of the software to those with low safety scores, and some people claim to have already downloaded it despite their numbers.

Tesla's Autopilot and the FSD bring the world an autonomous driving system developed by a team with tremendous knowledge of its software and systems. It also comes from Musk, who always talks about the system online, boasting of its features and improvement, including a promise that it would arrive for the public soon.
