On Thursday, June 16, telecommunications company T-Mobile revealed that it is upping its travel perks. The announcement was made during the company's Coverage Beyond virtual event.

T-Mobile will host a series of new programs, including free Wi-Fi on flights, faster free international data, and 25 cents discount per gallon on gas at Shell stations.

T-Mobile's New Travel Perks

According to The Verge, T-Mobile's gas discount is good for up to 20 gallons. Customers can start availing of the discount at Shell stations on June 21.

The telecommunications company also offers its customers a free membership with the American Automobile Association (AAA) for a year. The AAA offers roadside assistance such as jumpstarts and towing services.

T-Mobile is also increasing the data speed of its international data. Currently, the speed sits at 128 Kbps.

Starting June 21, the speed will be bumped to 256 Kbps, making streaming, video chatting, web browsing, and emailing a lot better and a bit faster.

For frequent flyers, 9to5Mac reported that the company would be expanding its Wi-Fi service. T-Mobile has partnered with American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Delta for secured Wi-Fi connections on flights.

On June 21, the telecommunications company will add United Airlines to the list.

How to Qualify for the Travel Perks

According to PCMag, Magenta Max, and Business Unlimited Elite, customers can enjoy unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi and fast international data.

Regular Magenta and Business Unlimited Advanced customers can get unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi for four flights in a year and an hour of free Wi-Fi per flight after that. They can also get up to 256 Kbps speed.

As for the one-year free membership with AAA and the gas discount at Shell, they can be availed through T-Mobile Tuesdays app and Shell Rewards.

How Much Do the Plans Cost?

The regular T-Mobile Magenta plan costs $70 per user and $50 for a family plan with two lines minimum. An extra line added to the plan will cost an additional $30.

For Magenta Max, the plan costs $85 per user and $55 for a family plan with two lines minimum. An extra line added to the plan will cost an additional $30.

The Business Unlimited Advanced plan costs $30 per user, while the Business Unlimited Elite costs $40 per user.

The travel perks announced by T-Mobile are the company's way to attract customers from other telecommunication companies that do not offer free, high-speed data.

This is also a way for existing T-Mobile subscribers to upgrade to the most recent plans.

Working on 5G

Aside from the perks that it is offering to its customers, T-Mobile is also currently working on its 5G network.

On June 15, the company combined three channels of mid-band spectrum on its 5G network, allowing it to achieve 3Gbps network speed, according to The Verge.

The 3Gbps speed will let customers download movies in seconds, play games without lags, and stream videos without interruptions.

The high-speed network will be rolled out to T-Mobile customers in late 2022, but the company did not say which plan it will be added to.
