It's been over a year since the official launch of the PlayStation 5, and until now, buyers have still been struggling to get their hands on the console. To make matters worse, the recent Walmart PS5 restock caused issues for buyers as well.

Scalpers have Made the PS5 Restock Situation Harder for Buyers

Due to the shortage of the PS5 restock, scalpers have been buying out any availability that comes to online retailers leaving regular buyers scrambling to buy the console at fair prices. The scalpers then resell the consoles at higher prices, and buyers that want to buy the PS5 as soon as possible are left with no choice but to pay a higher price or wait until the next PS5 restock.

According to the story by Game Rant, Walmart's June 2 PS5 restock came by, and although buyers were able to place their orders during that time, the retailer has still struggled when it comes to fulfilling those orders.

Walmart PS5 Restock Required a Premium Subscription Service

During that time, Walmart announced that it would have available PS5 consoles for its buyers and that they would have to have a Walmart + subscription in order to purchase the console. The subscription service would cost buyers a $12 fee per month.

Although Walmart placed a paywall behind its PS5 restock, it seems like the retailer is still struggling to cater to the orders. Users are starting to come forward with reports about the issue with their Walmart PS5 restock orders.

Buyers Say They haven't Received the Console Yet

PS5 Restock subreddit revealed inquiries from several users regarding what happened to their PS5 order. They weren't given a lot of updates, and in another Shipping Posts/Updates megathread, more confusion was spread regarding when the PS5 orders were going to ship out.

Some users noted that their orders were only put on "placed" status, and although quite a long time has passed, the order status has not yet changed to "preparing" or "shipped" ever since the orders were officially made.

PS5 Restock Shortage Expected to Last Until 2024

A particular Redditor also noted that it looked like a lot of people were still waiting for the console and were asking around as to whether other people have received their console yet. So far, there have not yet been a lot of positive responses regarding buyers receiving their consoles.

Although not a good sight for buyers, the issue with Walmart not being able to cater to PS5 restock orders isn't actually a big shock since the common expectation is that the shortage of PS5 consoles might last until 2024, as per Input Mag.

As per the article, Sony has officially released a statement saying the PS5 shortage could end by the year 2024, which is still a long way ahead. This means that although there could still be stock selling before that year, the supply will remain very limited.
