But, they actually are. In 2019, experts claimed that cybercriminals were targeting Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services at an alarming rate. 

Akamai Technologies, an American cybersecurity/cloud service company, confirmed this detail via their official "State of the Internet / Security: Credential Stuffing: Attacks and Economies." 

Akamai's security researchers said that hackers are trying to breach streaming services and devices, with their attempts ranging between 133 million and 200 million times in 2019. 

Privately Streaming in 2022

Hackers are not the only ones you should be worried about. According to CNET's latest report, advertisers also acquire your data while you sit there and watch via your streaming device.

But, Roku, Amazon, and other streaming service providers said that they provide user data to their partnered ad firms so that you will not receive random advertisements. 

However, even if targeted ads are accurate for user interests, there are some people who are not really happy when sudden ad videos pop up on their screens. 

This is why it is important to know how you can stream privately on Roku and other streaming gadgets. If you are interested, just follow the steps provided below.  

How To Stream Privately? 

Aside from using VPNs and following other common tips, there are ways specifically for certain streaming devices that will allow you to protect your privacy while watching movies: 

Roku

  1. First, visit Roku's menu and click Settings. Then, choose the Privacy option. 
  2. From there, click the Advertising button and turn on the Limit ad tracking feature. 

Amazon Fire TV Stick

  1. First, you need to go to your Amazon Fire TV Stick's settings and choose the Preferences option. 
  2. After that, click the Privacy Settings button and tap on the "Device Usage Data" option. 
  3. From there, go to "Collect App Usage Data" and deactivate it. You also need to turn off the "Interest-based Ads" feature. 

Apple TV

  1. First, choose the Tracking button and activate the "Allows Apps to Ask to Track" feature. 
  2. After that, return to the Privacy section and click the "Analytics and Improvements" button. 
  3. Once you are there, turn off the "Share Apple TV Analytics" and "Improve Siri and Dictation" buttons.
