The new Siri remote, which was announced alongside the second-gen Apple TV 4K, is offered when you get an Apple TV HD or separately. Just recently, Apple has just updated the firmware on the new Siri Remote.  Here's everything we know so far about the upgrade.

The Update for Siri Remote's Firmware

This Siri remote firmware upgrade comes only a few after Apple published the fifth beta of iOS 15.6, iPadOS 15.6, watchOS 8.7, macOS 12.5, and tvOS 15.6. But this is not entirely new to this device. In fact, this is the 3rd time  Apple has released upgrades for Siri Remote after being offered at the Spring Loaded event back in April 2021.

Reports from MacRumors show that the old and first firmware upgrade was named 9M6772, while the second one is 10M11103. As mentioned, the Siri Remote has been in the market for over a year. The release of updates, as compared to AirPods and such, is relatively slower. In return, users with this remote are highly anticipating what's about to be done on their devices.

But here's the thing: we don't know what the update will be. Although Apple does not specify what has changed with this Siri Remote firmware update, it is probable that Apple is improving speed while also fixing minor bugs.

According to 9to5mac, a new iPod-like click-wheel layout on the Siri Remote might address certain issues that Siri remote users have complained about. Previously, Apple had to upgrade the software on Apple TV to optimize the interaction between the set-top box and remote.

In 9to5mac's same report, this new Siri remote update may also include the most recent beta software for AirPods, which includes references to the LC3 codec for AirPods Max.

For those who are new to such a term, the LC3 codec is Bluetooth's upcoming low-power and high-quality codec, which will be available in headphones shortly. The Low Complexity Communication Codec, or LC3, will be capable of transmitting at considerably lower bitrates while maintaining the audio quality seen with Bluetooth's standard.

Moreover, Apple does not specify how the Siri Remote firmware may be updated, although one would assume it is done while you charge the remote and the Apple TV is switched on.

Recent Rumors about Additional Siri Remote Update

Apple looks to be keeping up with tracking devices as well. According to Tech Times, a new Apple TV Siri remote with inbuilt AirTag might be on the way. If this rumor turns out to be true, Apple customers will be able to easily locate the new Siri remote if they misplace it.

This information was discovered in the most recent iOS 16 beta after the code "SiriRemote4" was discovered. Interestingly, this wireless code on iOS 16 might be linked to the previously announced Bluetooth upgrade for the Siri remote.
