Apple's latest MacBook Air, equipped with an M2 chip, is now available to order, and the first units are shipping from July 15. The new MacBook Air features a design change to the MacBook line in 10 years.

The new Apple laptop will have a flat enclosure, larger display, and thinner screen bezels.

MacBook Air is Now Available to Order

According to MacRumors, the front camera of the MacBook Air with an M2 chip is now housed inside a display notch.

The M2 chip powers the laptop's improved CPU and GPU performance and will be 20% faster than the M1 MacBook Air laptop.

The M2 chip was launched in 2022 and was included in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, but that laptop was unchanged apart from the chip upgrade. Unlike the MacBook Air, which has a lot of improvements.

The redesigned internal parts of the laptop take cues from the 2021 MacBook Pro, with a rounded-edge design, leaving behind the classic MacBook Air taper. The new Air laptop is thinner than the MacBook Pro, measuring just 11.3 millimeters.

The new MacBook Air is available in four colors: silver, starlight, space gray, and midnight blue.

MagSafe is added as a default charging option, and each MacBook Air comes with a color-match MagSafe cable. You can still charge through the USB-C ports in the laptop that you prefer.

Redesigned MacBook Air Laptop Features

The new MacBook Air design also has thinner display borders with a 13.6-inch display, but some of the display space is used up by the notch, where the front camera is located.

MacBook Air's display quality is also improved, with 25% more brightness and support for a billion colors for the first time on the MacBook line.

The webcam has also been upgraded as it supports 1080p resolution and should appear similar in quality to the camera found in the MacBook Pro.

The new laptop also has an upgraded sound experience with an integrated four-speaker array, and it has Spatial Audio soundstage support.

MacBook Air's M2 chip increased the single-core CPU performance to 20% and GPU performance to 50%, based on the M2 MacBook Pro real-world testing. You can also configure the new laptop with up to 24 GB of RAM.

Apple says the complex workloads, such as editing videos in Final Cut or applying filters in Photoshop, are now 40% faster compared to the MacBook Air laptop with an M1 chip, according to Mashable.

Also, the order of magnitudes is faster for customers upgrading from the older MacBook Airs. All this power will not affect the laptop's battery life, as the new laptop will be able to handle 18 hours of video playback on a single charge.

MacBook Air Retail Price

According to Forbes, the new MacBook Air with an M2 chip will cost around $1,199 and around $1,099 for education customers.

The configuration includes a 256 GB SSD, 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and 8 GB RAM. If you wish to upgrade, it will cost $1,499 for an 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, or 512 GB, including the dual compact power adapter.

For 24 GB RAM and 2 TB of storage, it will cost around $2,499.
