After losing massive subscribers and users not too keen on the new ad-supported plans, Netflix has decided to cut down its catalog for its ad-supported plan. This means that subscribers for the new ad-supported plan won't be able to access the full catalog.

Netflix Co-CEO Confirms Ad-Tier Plans Will Not Offer the Full Catalog

An article by Deadline reports that Ted Sarandos, the Co-CEO of Netflix, confirmed this information. The confirmation was given regarding how the new affordable plan will not be getting all of the platform's licensed content.

The Co-CEO stated that this is due to it requiring new deals to be made with studios which could either take time or could potentially never happen. It was noted that all Netflix original movies and series will still be available via the new plan.

Sarandos Assures that Ad-Supported Plan Users Will Still have Access to 'Vast Majority' of Content

According to the story by 9to5Mac, subscribers that choose to use the ad-supported plan might still not be able to watch everything that is already available on Netflix. Sarandos noted that the "vast majority" of content will still remain available through the ad-supported plan upon launch.

Sarandos noted that a lot of what people watch on the streaming platform will still be included in the ad-supported tier. It was still noted that they are still in conversation with the studio but if they still launch the ad-supported plan, "members in the ad-tier would have a great experience."

Microsoft Named Netflix Partner for Providing Ad Support

The Co-CEO then noted that they will be clearing some additional content but definitely not everything. It was also stated that Sarandos does not think that this will be a material holdback for their business.

After numerous rumors, Netflix has decided to partner with Microsoft in order to launch a much more affordable subscription plan that comes with advertisement support. Microsoft released a blog post recently to detail the partnership between the two companies.

Microsoft Will Help Netflix in Terms of 'Technology and Sales'

Although most details still remain unclear, Microsoft notes that it will be helping Netflix when it comes to its own "technology and sales." All of the ads that will be shown to users will be based on Microsoft's very own platform and as per the company, they will still be protecting the information of their customers.

The new changes reportedly come during a time that the company is losing users all around the world. Just earlier this year, the company announced that it will be increasing subscription prices for its plans going as high as $19.99 a month in the United States.

The cheapest plan that Netflix is planning to offer will only show content in 480p for a singular device and will only cost users $9.99 per month. In comparison, Apple TV+ and Disney+ only charge users less than $10 a month while already coming with 4K content by default.
