BERLIN, GERMANY - MARCH 03: In this photo illustration several apps of Google are displayed on a smartphone on March 3, 2018 in Berlin, Germany. The left-wing organizers of the event cited Google's profit-oriented mass collection of personal data about people as well as the gentrification locals fear will accelerate should the Google Campus open. Google is reportedly planning to open a Google Campus, which is meant to create a venue for startups and technological exchange, this summer in a building that once housed an electric relay station in the heart of Kreuzberg.

By simply typing the "@" button and the emoji name that users want to use, a dropdown menu will pop up for them to choose different options in a quick way. This was announced in a blog post that the company created.

Another way to access this feature is adding the semicolon after the "@" to look for a much more detailed emoji that users want, as the first option will bring up other functions such as tagging a certain person linking documents, inserting templates, and more.

Release Date and Availability

As per the company, this newly updated feature will roll out to users starting today, August 29, 2022, and will be fully available for the next 15 days or starting on September 12, 2022. This will also be on by default after the said date.

Users who can access this will have to be customers of Google Workspace, G Suite Basic and Business, and those who have personal Google Accounts.

Emojis Google Docs was launched last April. The company stated that this feature was added as it is what the people want based on the feedback that the company has been receiving. Users also want to express their own selves in a much less formal way.

Google Docs is included in the company's ecosystem that is offering its products for free for people from the internet. These applications are Docs, Chrome, Drive, and Gmail.

Other Updates Released This Year

On the same website where this was announced, Google also added "Quick Summary" last May, which allows multiple sections of texts that have been edited by users. It can be accessed by clicking the control button for Windows and the command button for Mac.

Keyboard shortcuts were also added on the same date, where users can navigate, format, and edit. Menus will be shown by pressing the alt button (Windows) or option button (Mac). A list of shortcuts was added and can be seen here.

Only last year, Google announced the release of multi-skin toned emoji options, including the handshake emoji that represents embracing diversity. An additional 25 new skin tone options were added.

Google Creative Director Jennifer Daniel was the one who pitched this idea to Unicode last 2019. As developers were still at the early stage of the process, the idea of how to include this option made them confused and challenged, yet they were invested in how to make it happen.
