App Developer Kosta Eleftheriou settled in agreement with Apple regarding the lawsuit that he filed last March 2021 based on a report from TechCrunch.

Last year, FlickType was rejected and targeted by scammers in the App Store hence the decrease of its own revenue. He also criticized the platform for fake reviews, ratings, subscription scams, and clone apps.

The logo of US tech giant Apple can be seen on an Apple store in Munich, southern Germany. - Apple said it planned to invest more than one billion euros ($1.2 billion) in Germany and open Europe's biggest research facility on mobile wireless semiconductors and software.

Kpaw, Eleftheriou's company, was the one who requested to dismiss the lawsuit last July 21 after both parties came to an agreement. Eleftheriou and Apple did not give any comment regarding the dismissal and the settlement.

Other developers also called out Apple's App Store regarding the requirement to pay commissions through the applications' sales and giving the scammers an incentive as they profit from rip-off apps.

Filed Lawsuit Last 2021

One of Eleftheriou's complaints was the rejection of the App Store for his FlickType Apple Watch keyboard app and the approval of one of its competitors, as per TechCrunch's report.

Apple claims that the rejection was done as the application offered users a "poor experience". The revenue of the company dropped from $130,000 to $20,000.

Meanwhile, after the application was added to the App Store later on, FlickType was targeted by scammers after its successful launching as fake ratings and reviews were done to the app.

Eleftheriou's Suggestions

Despite him not giving any comments regarding the settlement, Eleftheriou offered suggestions through The Verge on what can Apple's App Store improve for them to avoid in the future the same problems that they encountered.

He suggested prioritizing the top-selling apps by putting them on the top and refunding the scammed people automatically. As a result of this, Apple brought back the report button to immediately find reports on apps that might scam users.

Apple also updated the auto-renew subscriptions system by prompting users to renew their subscriptions before their due date. This idea was also suggested by the developer.

Transparency is also what Eleftheriou wants on the removal of some applications on the App Store such as stating the reason and violations that the application did for the awareness of the users.

The bunch of lawsuits that Apple received over the past few years proves how big the company really is yet as much as possible, they avoid allegations that may give them a negative reputation to the public after reports from this month revealed that antitrust lawsuits might be filed against them by several lawyers from the United States Department of Justice.

These include abuse of market power through the App Store and Apple Pay. Despite the rumors, no final decisions were made as the planning is still in the early stages of drafting.
