Older iPhone models that get upgraded to the latest iOS 16 will no longer display the battery percentage in the status bar, according to Apple.

According to AppleInsider, every iPhone model released until 2017 will no longer show the percentage battery life figure at the top of the status bar. 

More specifically, the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini will only visually represent the battery level, but it will no longer display the number. 

The feature was removed because the tech giant had to conserve space to add Face ID and other sensors to the iPhone X redesign. 

According to PCMag, if you own an iPhone that supports the battery percentage display, you can enable it by navigating to Settings, then tapping Battery. 

The iPhone SE, both the 2nd and 3rd generation, iPhone 8, and all iPad models show the battery percentage in the status bar.

The tech giant suggests another way to view battery information: by adding the Batteries widget to your Home Screen or via Today View.

iOS 16 Features

On Monday, Sept. 12, Apple launched iOS 16. The latest operating software is compatible with iPhone 8 or later models.

Second generation or later models of the iPhone SE will also support the new Apple software update. 

If your iPhone runs the A12 chip, only a handful of features are supported. That is because if you own an iPhone 8 or earlier models, you do not have the chip. Older iPhones cannot pull live text from video or lift subjects from an image. 

According to USA Today, the most notable feature that won't launch until late 2022 is the iCloud Shared Photo Library, which allows iPhone users to share photos with their contacts easily. 

If you wish to update your iPhone with iOS 16, head to Settings, tap General, and select Software Update. Your iPhone will tell you if your device is compatible with iOS 16 or not. 

Once it is available, plug in your iPhone or ensure it has at least 50% battery life. Then tap Install Now and prepare to wait, as it could take a while. 

Other features are coming to iOS 16. One of them is the edit or delete messages that allows you to edit or unsend a message in the Messages app up to 15 minutes after it's been sent. Both the sender and recipient must use the Messages app and have iOS 16 on their device. 

Customizable lock screens will also be added in late 2022. In this feature, users can apply different styles and fonts, as well as additional information resembling mini widgets that can show the weather, alarms, activity, and more. The widgets resemble ones you can add to your Apple Watch. 

Focus mode is another feature that will be added. This will allow users to have an easier time creating a Focus and transitioning between multiple Focus modes, like shifting between work and personal uses.
