On Tuesday, Sept. 13, Amazon announced its latest Kindle e-reader with new features and notable upgrades.

The device is available on Amazon for $99.

Kindle e-Reader Features

According to CNBC, the most significant change in the new Kindle e-reader is the display because it is sharper than the previous $89 Kindle model.

This helps make the text clearer when you are reading. Its sharpness is similar to Amazon's $140 Kindle Paperwhite.

The latest Kindle e-reader also has more storage as it was bumped from 8GB to 16GB, which should be more than enough for most digital book libraries. Kindle's new storage upgrade will let you store thousands of books.

Also, the new Kindle e-reader has a backlight but does not have the advanced type available on Amazon's pricy Kindle Paperwhite. It also has no option to change the white balance to an orange hue for better reading.

Unfortunately, the Kindle e-readier is not water-resistant, so it is best to stay indoors when using the device.

As with the other updates to the Kindle line, like the Paperwhite, Amazon added a newer USB-C charger, the more common port used by Android smartphones, Apple tablets, and more.

The new USB charger replaces the previous micro USB port that gadgets have removed from their system in recent years.

As for the Kindle subscription, you can get the service for only $9.99 per month. This will give you access to thousands of books, comic books, audiobooks, and popular magazines.

Kindle Kids

According to Apple Insider, Kindle Kids include a new 6-inch 300ppi display that brings dark mode to the device's lineup for the first time. The upgraded screen allows you to have a better digital reading experience.

Kindle Kids has 16GB of storage, providing more space for ebooks. It also has a longer battery life of up to six weeks on a single, full charge. The Kindle app in the App Store also has a more simplified setup process for the new products.

Unlike the Kindle e-reader, the Kindle Kids model has a kid-friendly cover. It also comes with a one-year free subscription to Amazon Kids+.

After the free year subscription, you can get the Amazon Kids+ subscription for only $4.99 monthly. It provides unlimited access to children's books such as "Artemis Fowl," "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," and "Percy Jackson."

You can also have access to audiobooks from Audible, according to Expert Reviews.

Amazon also has a new Parent Dashboard for Kindle Kids. It offers parental controls to set reading and bedtime schedules for bedtime stories.

Children can also request books to add to their library, and there are features such as Word Wise and Vocabulary Builder that can help teach difficult words through flashcards.

The new Kindle Kids is available at $199.99 for 16GB and is only available in Black. The new covers will be available in Unicorn Valley, Space Whale, and Ocean Explorer.

Customers can now preorder the new Kindle e-reader and Kindle Kids on Amazon, and the shipping will start on Oct. 12.
