Users of the multimedia instant messaging app Snapchat reported several errors when attempting to access the social media app on Friday, Sept. 30. The first reports came in early Friday morning, according to several news scoops.

Snapchat Down

The internet outage bulletin Down Detector reported that the problem began at 6:52 a.m. and that close to 200 reports were received, indicating that they could not receive or send snaps.

Based on the report, users complained about various aspects of the messaging app and service. Forty-nine percent of all reports received today stated that the app's main features and user experience have been faulty for the past few hours. Meanwhile, 30 percent of the concerns raised were server connection issues, and 12 percent were app sharing problems.

These data are mainly from users across the United States.

According to a Yahoo article, users in the United Kingdom reported the same issues, with a focus on the app's snap feature. Many users shared on Twitter that they were experiencing errors when attempting to access the aforementioned function and urged Snapchat to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

You Are Not Alone

Many of these users were concerned that if the outage continued, they would lose their snap streaks.

As of this writing, Snapchat is still trending on Twitter, with users creating memes to express their feelings about the sudden Snapchat blackout. Some turned to the bird app to see if other users were having the same issues. It is worth noting that more than two-thirds of reported issues are related to the app not working.

As per Economic Times, while Snapchat did not issue an official statement about what caused the outage, the Snapchat Support account on Twitter asked users to DM them to attempt to resolve any issues they may be experiencing.

About Snapchat

One of the primary features of Snapchat is that images and messages are frequently only accessible for a brief period of time before they are no longer viewable by their receivers.

The app has changed from its initial focus on peer-to-peer photo sharing to now including users' "Stories" of 24 hours of chronological content as well as "Discover," which allows brands to show short-form, ad-supported content. Additionally, it enables users to save pictures in a "my eyes only" password-protected section.

According to another Economic Times article, Snapchat recently launched new features, including iOS 16 Lock Screen widgets for iPhone users. The company announced new features to make it easier to find conversations with friends.

New tools like Question Stickers were also introduced by the instant messaging platform. Snapchat unveiled a dual camera feature last month to allow Snapchatters to record multiple perspectives and themes simultaneously.
