Netflix episodes, movies, and documentaries can now be watched by residents of the United Kingdom in a new, cheaper way.

The online streaming company has officially launched its new membership tier, allowing users to see content for the low price of only £4.99 ($5.68) per month. This will save you a whooping £11 (around $12) per month in comparison to the premium membership tier, according to Express.co.uk.

'Basic With Ads' Is Finally Available in the UK

This low-cost option on Netflix, which is known as "Basic With Ads," was first introduced a month ago. On Thursday, Nov. 3, the company finally made it available to its users worldwide.

Those currently using the service only need to switch plans to take advantage of the cheaper pricing. Of course, it is also open to consumers signing up for the first time.

In this budget ad-supported plan, users are not permitted to download movies or television series and are instead subjected to an average of four to five minutes length of commercials every hour. The ads that will play before and during the episodes will be either 15 or 30 seconds long.

During the first launch, many series and films might be unable to access due to licensing restrictions. If you search for certain titles or browse the home screen, you might see a lock symbol next to them.

Launching a New Low-Cost Tier Is Necessary to Win Over Consumers

The fact that Netflix has been losing customers may be one of the factors that prompted the company to launch a membership tier with lower prices. The company has had a terrible year as a result of the present cost of living crisis, which has caused millions of individuals to stop using this service.

Because of this, Netflix has been compelled to reevaluate its pricing approach and provide something novel. All of these are in an effort to win over new subscribers and prevent its present customers from unsubscribing.

The slowdown in subscriber growth seen in previous quarters prompted the need for this modification. Netflix has witnessed a drop in the number of subs in each of the first two quarters of this year. It forecasted that it would only acquire one million new customers in the third quarter.

Unfortunately, it Doesn't Work on Apple TV yet

Despite the recent release of Netflix's new ad-supported plan, it is not yet compatible with Apple TV devices, including the third-generation Apple TV 4K.

Seems like Apple TV subscribers who want to take advantage of the lower tier will have to wait, MacRumors reported.

The Basic With Ads plan is accessible on Amazon Fire TV devices, Android, Chromecast with Google TV, game consoles, iOS devices, and a wide variety of smart TVs. However, Netflix has not provided an explanation for why it is not compatible with Apple TV.
