Apple announced a recall of an estimated 432,000 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops due to concerns of overheating batteries that could catch fire. The recall is for 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

Bulk Discounts MacBook Pro Models

Apple will be offering small businesses a promotional deal for MacBook Pro models if they will buy in bulk. Based on a report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, a 10% off will be offered for its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M1 chipset. Small and midsize businesses are the ones who can avail discounts.

This promo is considered rare by the company, as a part of the "very special Mac campaign". This was also confirmed to Apple retail employees as they were informed about the deal as the company already informed businesses who already have a relationship with them. Representatives and business owners were also shocked about this campaign as they rarely get calls from the tech giant for promotions.

A business will have to buy 5-24 MacBook Pros in any variant combinations of screen size and configuration, to avail the 8% off. While for the 10% off, a business will have to bulk purchase 25 units and more to avail the discount. According to 9to5Mac, this promo runs through December 24.

During the fiscal quarter that ended on September 24th, Apple generated sales for Mac computers totals to $11.5 billion, or almost 13% of the company's revenue in total. this was considered their best sales period in history for this product line. As per Mac Rumors, there are no Mac updates planned for this year, except for the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Aside from these, iMac, the Mac mini, and Mac Pro were also not refreshed.

Apple's Move to Boost Sales

Apple Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri stated during the earnings call in October that Apple is expecting Mac revenues to decline substantially between October and December. Adding to this is that this might be a move to clear out inventory before new models appear. The next generation of MacBook Pros is expected to release in the first few months of 2023, which comes with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

These bulk discounts can also help the company to boost sales to make up for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max constraints because of the Covid lockdowns in China. According to Bloomberg, deliveries for these variants were listed for late November or early December after the Chinese government implemented a lockdown in the Zhengzhou area that includes a Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.
