Windows 11 File Explorer Redesign

Microsoft is now working on releasing a redesign of File Explorer for Windows 11, according to a report by Windows Central.

A big update for File Explorer is expected to see the light of day soon. For now, the Redmond-based tech giant is reportedly working on a long-awaited overhaul, which includes a whole new design and more features.

Given that, Windows 11 users might soon get their hands on a newly updated File Explorer. It is worth noting that the changes are expected to be significant.

Windows Central reports that the overhaul offers a modern take on the built-in file manager application of Microsoft. And on top of that, the upcoming features integrate better with Microsoft 365.

However, it should be noted that the tech giant has yet to confirm that it is working to overhaul the File Explorer app on the latest Windows. So, do take this news with a grain of salt until we hear straight from the tech giant.

What's New on File Explorer

The new design of File Explorer reportedly introduces a new "Home" button, which better integrates with Microsoft 365.

Microsoft unveiled the Surface Pro 3 tablet at an event in New York on Tuesday, as it attempts to fuel interest in its struggling tablet line amid increasing competition.

XDA Developers notes in its story that the new Home screen is debuting a new "Recommended" section. And the files under it primarily came from OneDrive and SharePoint locations.

The redesign also reportedly brings a new "Gallery" view to the built-in file manager. It should help users better browse their photos and videos, among other media, at ease.

On top of that, XDA Developers notes that Microsoft looks to be borrowing a long-time feature of macOS, which lets users add tags to their files. This feature essentially makes organizing files a bit easier.

Besides these new features and refinements, Windows Central notes that the new version sports a modern and minimalistic look.

For instance, the navigation sidebar on the left is getting a new look, which features rounded highlight buttons.

Meanwhile, the address bar now seamlessly blends with the background, giving it a more streamlined look, which, to be frank, is less cluttered than before.
