In the next ten years, robots are projected to take over domestic household tasks, according to new research.

AI experts claim that by 2033, machines will do 40% of the domestic chores. Somehow, we might think that they might replace humans one day.

Researchers from Japan and the UK say that AI experts think that automation will be more prevalent in households in the next 10 years.

According to a report by CNA Lifestyle, the increasing trend in automation will continue in the next decade as more robots will be assigned to be a proxy for household helpers.

Speaking of household tasks, the experts see that the robots' presence will be felt most in grocery shopping. Meanwhile, taking care of old or young people will be least likely to receive the same treatment.

UK and Japanese researchers who are from the University of Oxford and Ochanomizu University respectively shared that the robots will have a massive impact on "unpaid domestic work."

"If robots will take our jobs, will they at least also take out the trash for us?", the AI experts asked.

As people get used to doing lighter household tasks because of the availability of robots, experts think that there will be a big reliance on machines for the years to come.

For instance, the robot vacuum cleaners such as Roomba and Dyson are observed to be the "most widely produced and sold robots in the world," the experts said in a report by BBC.

What Did AI Experts Forecast in the Research?

BBC wrote in its report that the experiment involves 36 AI professionals in the UK and 29 Japanese AI experts. They were asked about their forecast for automation.

Based on the research, male UK experts are more positive about robots taking over domestic chores. Meanwhile, Japanese female experts tend to have an opposite sentiment.

According to Oxford Internet Institute's Dr. Lulu Shi, the prediction for automation tasks vary from one another. The activities which focus on care work will only account for 28%. That's smaller compared to the 60% time saved in grocery shopping when the robots are used.

Robots Are Dominating Today's Technology

Many people claim that AI and robots will someday replace humans. Before we had manual vehicles that operators used, but now, everyone can maneuver a Tesla car because of its self-driving feature.

With the assistive technology that robots offer to humans, the burden of finishing general tasks will be lessened.

According to King's College's reader in AI and Society Dr. Kate Devlin, it does not mean that robots will replace humans. Instead, it will only accompany the people to lighten their loads of daily work.

If the robots will indeed do the majority of domestic chores in the next ten years, then humans can likely have more focus on different things that matter.

As such, they can soon start leaving trivial activities at work while becoming more productive in tasks that require the most attention and effort.
