Shortwave email app first came out in 2022 when some Google executives hinted about its upcoming features. As it borrows inspiration from the company's Inbox app, it is expected to have a new set of capabilities including the ability to produce quick summaries with the help of artificial intelligence.

At the time, beta testers can access the GPT3-powered app for free. Scanning many emails is now made easier and faster thanks to this integration.

Inspired by Google's Inbox app, the Shortwave email app has lent a hand with OpenAI to bring GPT3 to the early testers.

According to a report by TechCrunch, OpenAI allows Shortwave to have a quick email translation feature for content with different languages.

Apart from that, when you browse over the newsletter, you can finish skimming the pages in a short time thanks to AI.

The most interesting feature that everyone should see when using the Shortwave email app is the inclusion of summaries from a previous message. In short, even if you are not a Shortwave user, you can check the context of the discussions through an AI-powered summary.

More AI-Powered Functions Are Coming to Shortwave

The startup behind the email envisions that more AI-centered features will be coming such as smart composing and a wide selection of summarization techniques.

Shortwave also sees that a semantic search will be available in the future.

"The new capabilities of large language models have swung the door wide open for new ways to interact with your inbox. At Shortwave, we aim to pave the way towards an AI-enabled email future, starting with Smart Summaries, launching today in beta," the company wrote in a blog post on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The startup hopes that free users will take their time to explore Shortwave's AI-powered features. In the meantime, the company is discussing matters about the pricing strategy for the email app as part of the test phase.

For those interested in using Shortwave's subscription, the power and custom plans will cost the users a monthly fee of $9. The latter is focused on teams while the former is for individuals.

Currently, you can enjoy a myriad of upgrades on this email app including GIF and emoji support, email grouping, pinned emails, and more.

If you have already read an email in Shortwave, you can mark it right away. Another option is to simply snooze it on your to-do list.
