Google Messages is likely dipping its toes in artificial intelligence (AI) soon, following the debut of the Bard chatbot. A new feature, which might offer AI-generated replies, appears to be in the works.

It looks like the search giant plans to stuff AI features across its wide range of services, including its messaging platform.

Google Messages AI-generated Reply Feature

As per a report by Slash Gear, Google recently opened access to the ChatGPT competitor, Bard AI, to a select number of users, as it is still in its testing stage.

Its arrival comes shortly after OpenAI's ChatGPT took the world by storm, following the BingGPT of Microsoft. Not to mention that other AI tools, such as the image-generating platform, DALL-E, also took the spotlight.

With that, the renowned search giant teased that Bard is just the beginning. Google announced that it plans to expand its rodeo to AI to its other services, including Google Search and Google Maps.

And now, it looks like the tech giant is also silently working on a potential AI integration for Google Messages. 9to5 Google reports that an AI-generated reply feature is likely in the works as early as now.

Upon digging beneath the beta version of the messaging app, a surprising revelation hinted that the giant firm is testing a possible new feature for its platform.

Although the AI-powered feature is nowhere to be found, signs of it are already existing. To be more precise, the sparkle icon, which the Bard AI uses, sits to the left of the emoji option.

When selecting the sparkle button, it leaves out a "(TODO!)" text. With that, it looks like the feature is in its early stages of development. So it might still take some time before it materializes into something interesting.

Given that, the tech giant is likely working on some AI-powered features for Google Messages, likely marking the integration of Bard to the platform.

It should help improve the current Smart Replies option, which suggests users relevant replies to messages. With AI, it should help provide more engaging replies.
