Esports has evolved into a serious and competitive industry in which professional gamers work tirelessly to win and achieve legendary status in their respective games.

However, this mother's journey in the world of esports is one-of-a-kind. She had no idea she was only a few wins away from claiming a sizable prize pool worth thousands of dollars.

Gamer Mom Unknowingly Topped Candy Crush Tournament

PCGamer tells us in a report that Erryn Rhoden, a 48-year-old mother of three, entered the Candy Crush All Stars tournament by accident and emerged as one of the best players in the United States, with a chance to win a share of a $250,000 prize pool.

After quitting competitive PvP games, Rhoden told Kotaku that she has been playing Candy Crush for about a decade. She chose Candy Crush to keep her mind focused, satisfy her desire to win, and avoid causing anyone to rage.

Rhoden entered the Candy Crush All Stars tournament by accident, which is an in-game event in which players advance through each round by reaching the top of their leaderboard.

The finals will be held in London next month, with the rest of the tournament taking place entirely through the app. Rhoden was unaware she had entered the tournament until she received notification that she had qualified.

Pushing to the Candy Crush Tournament

Despite being unaware that she was participating in the tournament, Rhoden performed admirably, allowing her to skip some of the tournament stages.

She made it to the semi-finals but was recently eliminated, ending her chance of traveling to London and winning some money. She did, however, receive some in-game rewards for her high ranking.

Rhoden's son, Xane, was the one who tweeted her story to the world. Xane's tweet about his mother's situation has received over 55,000 likes since April 12. Xane took over all of Rhoden's chores over the weekend, allowing her to focus solely on climbing the Candy Crush ranks.

Candy Crush Still Kicking

With over a billion downloads, Candy Crush has been viewed as a game way past its peak and is for older generations who are not typically into fast-paced games. Some have viewed it as having simple gameplay and its perceived intention to lure players into spending money.

But Rhoden, who has successfully beaten over 11,000 levels of Candy Crush without spending a single penny, says the game showcases the strategy and skill required to master the game rather than simply relying on in-app purchases to advance.

Candy Crush consists of a series of puzzles that require players to match various colored candies in order to progress to the next level. The game is designed to be easy to pick up but difficult to master. Each level presents new challenges and obstacles that require careful planning and strategy in order to overcome.
