WhatsApp has added a new "Keep in Chat" feature that allows users to save messages that the Disappearing Messages feature would otherwise delete.

Wabetainfo reports that the feature is currently available to users who have installed the most recent WhatsApp updates for iOS, Android, and Desktop. It will be expanded to more users in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp's New 'Keep in Chat' Feature

The Disappearing Messages feature on WhatsApp is a popular feature that automatically deletes conversations after a certain period, providing an additional layer of privacy.

However, this feature makes it difficult for users to keep track of important messages they may want to refer to in the future. Users can save specific messages that are set to disappear using the "Keep in Chat" feature.

New Feature to Rolling Out Soon for More Users

WhatsApp announced the new feature in a recent blog post. Although some beta testers already have access to it, it will soon be available to everyone.

The feature works by allowing users to keep specific messages in a conversation after turning on the Disappearing Messages feature.

When someone chooses to prevent a message from being deleted, the sender is notified and given the option to veto the decision. If the sender decides to delete a message before the timer expires, it will be deleted. The sender now has complete control over their messages.

Messages saved will be marked with a bookmark icon and listed in a new section called "Kept Messages" within chat info. Users can now easily access the messages they have chosen to keep.

This feature is not limited to WhatsApp for Android; it is also available to some users on WhatsApp for iOS and Desktop.

Another Valuable Addition to WhatsApp

The "Keep in Chat" feature in WhatsApp is a useful addition, especially for users who need to keep track of important messages.

It also adds an extra layer of security by preventing sensitive messages from being automatically deleted. However, users should remember that this feature does not prevent recipients from screenshotting their messages.

WhatsApp's "Keep in Chat" feature is a fantastic addition that allows users to prevent important messages from disappearing automatically.

According to Wabetaifo, this feature was already available to some beta testers who installed the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.7.0.72 and WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.3 updates.

This feature is currently available to users who have installed the most recent WhatsApp updates for iOS, Android, and Desktop, and it will be expanded to more users in the coming weeks.

More from WhatsApp

WhatsApp has also released a new beta update via the TestFlight program that allows users to add descriptions to forwarded images, videos, GIFs, and documents, according to Wabetainfo. The most recent version, marked as 2.23.8.74 in WhatsApp settings, brings the version up to 23.8.0.74, with the TestFlight build being 23.8.0 (467453871).
