Speculations claim that this new technology would limit features and applications that users can access based on their locations.

In an exclusive 9To5Mac report, Apple is allegedly working on the iPhone restriction feature. People who are familiar with Apple's works said that this technology is a hidden system in iOS 16.

Apple already implemented this kind of technology in some countries since their government restricts certain apps and features, such as FaceTime.

Now, Apple is believed to be working on a new system that will make managing restrictions easier.

This new system (called "countryd") was allegedly integrated by Apple into the iOS 16.2 silently. Although it is already in the iPhone operating system, Apple hasn't activated it yet.

The new iPhone restriction system works by combining GPS location, country code (acquired from the WiFi router), and SIM card details to check where the user is living in.

How It Will Benefit iPhone Users?

There's a chance that the new iPhone restriction system will create concerns among iPhone users.

However, experts stated that this technology will only limit features and applications that are not allowed by governments.

Yes, this enhancement will make it hard for users to access restricted apps and features in certain countries. But, it will also allow them to easily use those that are allowed by the government of the country they are visiting.

As of writing, Apple hasn't confirmed if it will really make this rumored iPhone restriction system accessible across the globe.

While waiting, the iPhone maker is working on its other products.

Previously, rumors claimed that the upcoming Apple MR headset would be lighter thanks to its external magnetic battery.
