Snippet of New Support Hero

As Overwatch 2 announced its massive new update called Invasion, Blizzard has constantly added new content to the game, keeping fans engaged by bringing new offerings. According to a report from Dexerto, the biggest content drop of Overwatch 2 will be launched on August 10, during which we will see the addition of story missions and a new support hero to the game.

The trailer for the Invasion update was released today, teasing a new hero after Liveweaver was just recently added to the horizon as a support hero. For a brief second, Overwatch showed a feminine hero rising into the sky with a large gun. The trailer described that the new hero would also be part of the support characters and available when the game launches on August 10.

The small snippet is intendedly blurry due to the glare of the sun behind them. In this way, it will give the fans an element of surprise as Blizzard might release its own teaser or trailer dedicated to the new addition, featuring their abilities or even what they fully look like. Fans already knew that a new support hero was coming in Season 6, based on Overwatch 2's roadmap.

Story Missions are Finally Here

Game Director Aaron Keller revealed that the long-hoped-for story mode for Overwatch 2 has been canceled, as he described that the development process will be ultimately unfeasible if continued. He promised though that the game's story missions would still be coming to get to know what is going on with the beloved characters.

During the company's presentation at the Xbox Showcase, The Verge reported that Blizzard officially announced that Overwatch 2: Invasion's story mission is finally coming. This will not be new to the game as Overwatch introduced its first story mission back in 2017.

These new story missions would bring the game's story into the present to make use of the newly added characters. For instance, Overwatch's story was deeply entwined with Sojourn's story when she was introduced back in 2022. Art Director Dion Rogers stated, "She had a deep, lore connection to the game world. She moves the storyline forward when she's introduced."

Blizzard will be kicking off first the update of the game's fifth season which is scheduled for June 14. Game Rant reported that this is expected to be a much smaller season compared to the previous releases as there will be no hero or major map added.

Despite this, Season 5 will still have a Battle Pass full of unlockables and special events like the Summer Games and Questwatch. To obtain a much bigger update, fans will still have to wait until August 10, featuring the new hero and the game's first story missions. Overwatch 2 is currently available in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
