Overwatch 2: Invasion has faced significant criticism from players lately, leading to a wave of backlash. The recent announcement of Overwatch 2: Invasion set to launch on August 10 has not changed the negative fan reaction.

Players are particularly frustrated with the decision by the Overwatch team to charge $15 USD for permanent access to the Story Missions, considering it a purely profit-driven move.

The recent "Overwatch 2" update garned negative reactions from the community and here's why.

The Overwatch 2: Invasion Bundle includes several items in addition to the permanent access to Story Missions. However, players have taken to social media to express their disappointment and anger at what they perceive as a money-driven decision, per Video Gamer. They feel that content that was originally promised to be free now requires an additional payment.

Fans have expressed concerns about the future of Overwatch 2, speculating that Blizzard may continue to introduce paid content in a similar manner. This has led to frustration among players who paid for Overwatch 1, only to feel like they are being asked to pay more for a supposedly inferior version.

The initial announcement received overwhelmingly negative feedback, with fans expressing their outrage at the decision made by the Overwatch team. Subsequent posts by the Overwatch Twitter account advertising the upcoming content received a more mixed reception, but the overall sentiment remains negative.

The controversy surrounding Overwatch 2 continues to grow, with the cancellation of the game's Hero Mode further fueling dissatisfaction among players. Despite these issues, players can still look forward to Overwatch 2 Season 5, which is set to launch soon with new maps and events. Season 6, known as the Overwatch 2 Invasion season, is scheduled for release on August 10.

'Overwatch 2' Matchmaking and Competitive Play Updates

Here are some of the updates on matchmaking and competitive play as stated on the official website of "Overwatch 2."

Matchmaking:

  • Implemented new matchmaker functionality to create matches with a narrower range of player skills. The system will be fine-tuned gradually throughout the season.

  • Matchmaker now prioritizes placing similar groups with wide skill ranges into the same match, reducing the chance of solo players being placed in those matches.

Matchmaking Bug Fixes:

  • Addressed issues with backfills in Quick Play, preventing long wait times or backfill not occurring.

  • Fixed an issue where the matchmaker sometimes assigned new players an inaccurate competitive MMR, which has now been corrected.

FFA Player Skill Ratings Bug Fixes:

  • Resolved a major issue that affected how the matchmaker updated player skill ratings in "free for all" game modes like Deathmatch.

  • Due to the underlying issue, skill ratings for FFA modes are no longer meaningful and have been reset. Match quality may be suboptimal initially until players accumulate more games in Deathmatch.

Competitive Play

Ranked Inactivity Changes:

  • Players who didn't participate in any matches during the previous competitive season will be marked as Inactive.

  • Inactive players won't have a visible Skill Tier and Division. Each role in Role Queue can become Inactive separately, while Open Queue has a single rank for Inactive status.

  • Upon returning and winning five games, Inactive players will regain their visible Skill Tier and Division.

Competitive Mystery Heroes:

  • Competitive Mystery Heroes returns for a full season, offering randomized hero gameplay.

  • Competitive challenges are available again, granting mysterious titles and competitive points.

Competitive Bug Fixes:

  • Improved the initial skill estimation (MMR) calculation for players queuing for their first competitive game.
